A came across this "TED" talk video by David Christian. Supported by a great series of videos and illustrations, David Christian narrates a complete history of the universe, from the BB to the present time in a riveting series of thresholds of complexity in around 18 minutes in reasonable simple layman's language. This is an enlightening, wide-angle look at complexity, life and humanity, and the essentially smallish part of that cosmic timeline. Do you have 18 minutes to spare? It's well worth it. I always saw Carl Sagan as a great educator, but this Pommy also does and excellent job. https://www.ted.com/talks/david_christian_big_history/transcript?language=en#t-1023322
