    Yep, it just looks like it was kicked up by Opportunity trying to do a donut.

    I would suggest it was likely caused by the weight of Opportunity and the turn causing Torque from the wheel on the surface, which would cause a rock to potentially break from the stress. (Longer explanation of a Doughnut)

    It's possible that the actual force required to break a stone/rock so could be worked out from that manner, which could give an approximation Newtonian value for the rocks intergraty.

    Where is that original thread asking what we thought it was? I remember saying it was something hit by the rovers arm and slid down, almost the same as what happened.
