    They aren't.

The Torah - or, rather, halakha - definition is that anyone with a Jewish mother is a Jew.

    You're not. You're just a confused Zionist.

I don't believe the Torah says that. Some rabbis decided it means that. But because we know that no one inherits religion, we know its bullshit.

Besides, if you don't believe in the Halacha, why would you follow that?

So we can expect you never to employ the term "atheist Jew" again, then?

I will, same as I apply the term white supremacist. Just because its BS, doesn't mean some people don't believe in it.

I wonder how many Jews were saved by explaining this reasoning to the Gestapo?

As many blacks that were saved from slavery by protesting their rights. Or do you think blacks should define themselves by the subhuman category imposed upon them too?

And because we also know that Judaism is an ethnicity as well as a religion, we see the gaping hole in your logic here.

We also note the reversion to your offensive habit of dictating other people's identities and beliefs to them, from a perch of malign ignorance.

White supremacism is not bullshit in the sense of being ill-defined.

And as to that charge: in matters of self-identification, what people do and don't believe in is exactly the difference between their identity and your BS.

Hence: because Jews self-identify as such on the basis of ethnicity as well as religion, those are the defining characteristics of the category. Attempts by you to dictate otherwise are both laughably futile, and deeply offensive.

I am Jewish, my mother, father, and grandparents would all say so.

I'd like an atheist Jew to tell me why he only believes in the part of the Halacha which genetically confers Jewishness to him.

What's the Halacha? And why do you think it's genetic?

Feel free to discuss why Jews have their own holocaust if you like.

What they're liable to tell you, if you bothered to talk to them, is that they recognize an ethnicity when they see one.

If you get it from your mother, its considered genetic. I'm guessing if your father was Jewish and your mother was not you would not be a Halachic Jew. Which makes it an X chromosome allele.

    Do you believe that?

Personally I have a friend who was born to a Kurdish father and an American Christian mother but who converted to Judaism. Now he follows kashruth and keeps halacha. So he is Jewish, according to me. I don't care what his mother was. And I don't care that he gets kicked out of synagogues. I consider him a Jew.

Halachic law also allows for conversion.

Yeah I know. According to the Torah, anyone who keeps halacha i.e. keeps the covenant is a Jew. That is the correct definition. However, by Halacha ver 2.0, if you cannot find a rabbi -not a Reform one but a Real Rabbi[sup]TM[/sup] to testify that your mother was a Real Jew[sup]TM[/sup], you cannot be buried in a Jewish cemetery.

So you see, by the new modern Judaism, my convert friend does not qualify for a Jewish cemetery, but the atheist "Jew" does.

I consider this to be racism.

Then there is this whole other animal called as a "half Jew"

I consider it only partially genetic. I'm from a Jewish ethnicity, even if I don't practice. But I was also raised in a Jewish family, so that's cultural.

How does one practise ones ethnicity?

Why would, say, "Ashkenazi Jews" be any less of an ethnicity than "Arabs?"
