From studies I've seen, including some that have been linked to this forum in the last couple of years, while the percentage of Americans that have a good understanding of both geography and history, including their own, is indeed fairly low (much less than 50%), the same studies show that less than 50% of European students have a good understanding of geography and history. Higher than Americans, yes, but not significantly. So from where I sit, according to my experiences and studies I've seen, you can realistically say more European students have a better knowledge than their American counterparts. Not most.
