I say we do nothing, because it's a fake issue designed to get the bigot vote.

it may be a fake issue but that is the reality in the USA.
The general fear of mass migration (xenophobia) has been a main driver behind the Trump campaign success. The Democrats need to offer an alternative that deals with this fear and does so in a way that reflects USA humanitarian values.
From here I have not read any alternative strategy from the Democrats who seem to consistently fail to realize the potential of this fear (paranoia). No alternative means not likely to succeed.
Hillary Clinton missed the immigration boat in 2016 and the Dems are still missing the boat. IMO

One could argue that the Statue of liberty USA values suffered terminal injuries with the events of 9 11

    I wonder:
    Who organized this "caravan"?
Who is feeding them along the way?

They have over a 2000 mile walk to get here.
With women and children, I would guess that they will be walking for over 3 months.

Meanwhile, we may have about 1.5 million homeless in the usa(though hud claims the number to be @ 1/3 of that).

What do you mean by fake issue?

The people will show up at the border. Someone will have to decide what to do about 5,000 people all looking for asylum.
How do you think the issue will go away?

Certainly the 5000 or so plus 3000 (just starting) or so that are currently enroute are homeless due to economic and rule of law issues.
Repubs claim that jobs are a plenty and incomes are up.
Unfortunately the poor people in central America may see that as reason to be optimistic. Even if it is all lie.
Yes... believe it or not they do read the news.

Looks like maybe 3000 will make it. That will amount to about 1% of the illegal flow across that border in a normal year since NAFTA and GATT.
    Hardly seems an insurmountable problem.

what examples do other countrys offer for such an act ?
    name the country
    define their example

what is the USA expecting the USA to do ?

why is this group gaining soo much media attention when there is thousands of people crossing every day ?
    what makes them different ?
is the difference a required facet of the solution & how does Capitalist idealogical greed define its own sense of completeness as any possible example of a solution ?

The ideal human sacrifices of children for the aggrieved masses to feel a sense of self vindication...
feed the poor starving children on their Death march to murder...
find absolution for your lack of making change at the bottom level by throwing coins at the condemned children...

whos making a party out of the voyerism ?

it all seems a little bloody minded on all sides to me.

i wonder if the government of the country they had left was communist, would they be defined as political refugees and defined as ligitimate by the USA government ?

it is a sad vindication of doubt to see there is no ongoing reporting of the condition & welfare of refugees in the USA to show some type of bottom line compitency.

how does a person with no money no assets no income pay for scholing, housing & medical in a capitalist country ?
    They cant.
    They beg for it.
Is Begging by undocumented foriegn unregistered people, legal in the USA ?

is there some type of duopoly of moral impass going on ?
illegal immigrants with no documents demanding money and rights from a foriegn power...
    demanding to not be beggers...

it surely is an odd situation. soo odd it probably defines the nature of the societys ability to manage it.

previousely it was normal to invade other countrys commit genocide and take everything they had...
legality and the enforcement of law on a much wider global scale is now a reality.
the world is in a first time situation.
total global coverage to apply a single rule of law has never been able to be applied in this vast manner EVER before !

all the people with the money and authority have all the power(the top 2% of society?)
it will be interesting to see what they choose to do.

I see Trump is sending 5000 troops to the border.
    Is that enough?
Do you think we will win or will the invasion win?

    Golly, this is so scary!!

Yes, the issue is all at one time and all in the same place.
I guess what will happen is that they will set up a camp.

Some overhyped idjit in a uniform will shoot. Some overhyped idjit in a uniform always shoots.
Trump will blame the Washington Post and Meryl Streep. The idjits in red tractor caps will believe it and send bombs.

    [#justbecause]

    Since it came up:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

I visited the border control people at San Ysidro once. The holding areas* were all fun. Just a typical Wednesday night.

*Seven cells, one hundred feet on a side.

It is not an emergency in any sense. There are asylum procedures. This is only a national issue because Trump is an asshole. And he's going to get impeached.

5000 troops with a further 3000 on stand by ( according to WSJ) is that a tad over reacting or what?
Unarmed civilians women and children facing 5000 troops + NG + police.. eh?

Not sure if the word emergency was used, but 3000 people is enough to cause an issue of humanitarian aid in the short term.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I lost hope when they didn't charge Dubyah with war crimes.
There's a lot of rhetoric about impeaching Trump. No action yet.
