As George Carlin said; "You have to stand in awe of the salesmanship of religions". But then, they've had a lot of practice at it.

If the benefits ate just like a placebo, then you admit religion is just a convenient lie.

No, enhancing stimulation of placebo is also be a healing mechanism. Motivation to do physical, mental, spiritual. naturals & social activities is also a healing mechanism. Moreover supernatural and miraculous affects are felt but pending in science, may also be a healing mechanism. And all these with lesser/least side effects. Benefits of all types.

You possibly are correct to some degree however don't you think there is harm in having folk run around believing in superstition with no understanding of what they are playing with...There have been some strange things done in the name of religious healing and really if a qualified doctor who knows what he is doing can heal you I don't see any value in resorting to what in effect is witchcraft.

You present as an intelligent person and it surprises me that you seem to put faith before tested science.

You are right upto some extent. When odds and evens are on both sides then specific risk benefits angle can make us to opt accordingly. It can depend on specific condition but taking all conditions in same boat may be bit odd.

What myth is there with real benefits & no undue side effects? There is no practical angle to believing that which has no proof. Whatever placebo benefits are not worth the harm which comes with it.

Knowledge of what ails you (Doctors), is a specialized science that deals with the diagnosis and treatement of a disease or injury.

Millions of people died from the Black Plague, while praying. God did not find a cure, scientists did.
Why on earth would anyone trust in an Idea, rather than a Doctor who deals with facts.

I think that the bible is definitely a myth because there is no shred of evidence or proof that anything of what was written in the bible is actually true.

Also there's no shred of proof and there never was, especially not coming from science, that there is a loving God who actually cares about humans.

Also the amount of evil, suffering, pain and death in this world is so very great so that it's stupid and irrational to believe that there is a all-capable loving God who cares about people.

My point is that there are too many things that are wrong (or that are evil) with this world for there to be a God.

Not if you address the wrong God, as an undefined existence.
OTOH, an abstract mathematically functioning pseudo-intelligence is pervasive and visible to all. It requires no adoration, worship, sacrifice, other than dedicated study of how it all works.
Then when you ask the universe a question in the proper mathematical form, you will often receive an answer.........I like that perspective....

Yes. There is extremely little, if any, evidence for any god(s). There is no evidence against some possible god(s).
There is very much evidence against an omnipotent loving god.
IF there is a god, it is either not omnipotent or not loving & it cannot expect me to be aware of it without showing itself.

I was only referring to the concept of a God or Gods, as naturally occurring mathematical functions. Scripture is completely unreliable as scientific instruments.

There's quite a bit of evidence, actually. Jesus existed and Pontious Pilate existed, for example, and are described in contemporary non-Biblical accounts. The Acts of the Apostles are largely historically accurate (i.e. they mention places, rituals, government officials, wars etc that have been independently confirmed.) The Gospels are also largely accurate, again backed up by independent contemporary sources.

Needless to say, there's also a whole lot of myth.

So much more myth than fact. His mistake is easily excusable.
The Gospels are much more unsupported claims than reasonably known accuracies.
THE Jesus as portrayed in the bible is myth, IF taken at all seriously. We do not know whether an actual person existed on which it was somewhat based. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of messiahs not 1 of which was recognized as THE Messiah by the very people who ought to know & there were many men named Yeshua.
Jesus is not described in other contemporary accounts.
