Ballistics: The scientific study of projectiles. (Shells, Bombs, Rockets.) Their ejection, flight thru the air, and impact with the target.
Coanda effect - described by Henri Coanda, a Romanian scientist, in the 1930's. This effect describes the tendency of moving air and fluids to follow the nearby curved or inclined surface.
Decay constant: The constant ratio of radioactive atoms disintegrating in a given short time interval, to the total of those intact at the beginning of the interval.
Electron affinity: The energy required to remove an electron from an ion possessing a single negative charge.
Gravity feed: A supply system of a substance from a higher level to a lower one using force of gravity without power assistance.
Liquid Laser: A laser that utilizes rare earth ions dissolved in a dye liquid as an active material, e.g., chelate, dye.
Mutagenisis, The process through which the genetic information of an organism is changed naturally or experimentally by using chemicals or radiation
Neutron activation analysis: Method of chemical analysis through bombardment of a specimen with neutrons.
Operations research: An interdisciplinary mathematical science that focuses on the effective use by organizations of other mathematical sciences — such as mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and mathematical optimization — to arrive at optimal or near-optimal solutions to complex decision-making problems.
Polynomial approximation scheme (algorithmic technique) Definition: A set of algorithms {Aε| ε > 0}, where each Aε is a (1+ε)-approximation algorithm and the execution time is bounded by a polynomial in the length of the input. The execution time may depend on the choice of ε. Sometimes referred to more precisely as polynomial-time approximation scheme. (i have no clue what this means...)
Quasi particle: In solid-state physics, a unit of energy (sound, light, heat) with mass and momentum but that doesn't exist as a free particle, e.g., phonons
Restrictive temperature : A temperature at which temperature-sensitive mutants display the mutant phenotype.
Solar cell: A photoelectric cell capable of converting photons from the sun's energy into electrical energy; used as a power or heat source.
