    Hi!

A guy who has access to my house, (J) left a container of sulfuric acid open! He also put it on a tower of items, if it had fallen it could have potentially melted through some epoxy containers as well as a motorcycle battery. There are children in this house!

He was making cocaine, or trying to. He is a computer!

Anyway, does sulfuric acid produce fumes when it is just sitting there opened?

The cocaine isn't going to make itself, thats how I would interpret J's message ...

It strongly depends on how concentrated it was, but in general sulfuric acid doesn't fume much. Not nearly as much as other acids, anyway.

    lol indeed DR

I suppose I'm over reacting, but still, I don't think it was wise to put that near gallon epoxy containers!

Its in the room right under my f-ing room!

    Oh well ***wonders away***

What happens when you mix epoxy with sulfuric acid??

I know that its a bad idea to have a room above the boiler - sometimes the boiler will explode, leaving a big hole where your floor was.

H2SO4 won't fume, but its very corrosive lol

I once dropped 2 litres of it at work from knee height, breaking the bottle it was in, i was standing in a puddle of 98% sulphuric.. slowly i stepped out it, my shoes, tookk off my pants and labcoat. Luckly, did not suffer any burns at all, though my jeans and shoes got mangled.

Acid will not burn through plastic, so your battery was probally safe.
