The Marines "only" have a few tens of thousands of ships. The Imperial navy, on the other hand, has many millions of multi-km capitol ships, and tens of million of scouting/fleet screening ships that are "only" a few hundred km long. So far as I know there aren't any real numbers on how many ships the other races/factions have, but it's probably at least in the millions.

Given the many, many millions of huge warships in 40k, it seems like the numbers alone would probably swamp the ST universe. Even if they are so inferior that the ST races can destroy their ships with ease, the ST races could probably slaughter them all day and night for years without ever really making a dent in the numbers.
