    First, thanks for the info.

    Second, can you describe the mechanism by witch the photon interacts with the atomic lattice and is reflected? Is it based on the electro-weak force connection?

    To be completely honest, I haven't got a clue

    Yes, the photons that do not get absorbed get reflected and can hence reach our eyes. Combined they form the color of the solid we see.
