SF was down? What? Wow. Amazing. I bet my theory of a DDoS attack is correct. Right? Maybe someone put up a popular porn site on the shared server? Questions... I want answers!
The fault reminded me of something I did with a Dedicated server once. The problem in my case was due to an update in software, which caused a compatibility issue with the Gzip compression library. it simply made the pages stop loading any data when asked for information by returning a blank sheet. However there are many other reasons that such an occurance happened, I suppose you could question did someone fix it or did it seem to fix itself?
Well we know what happened. Most people know this site is on a shared server. Well, one of the sites on this same server was mysticgaming.net. A Small Orange is forcing them to move because they were the target of a DDoS attack. And apparently everywhere this site gets moved to, he gets attacked again. Anyway as a result of this DDoS attack on the site, every other site on the server was taken down due to the overload.
Those internet tubes got all tangled up. Seriously, our webhost thought it would suddenly screw with our configuration, breaking everything in sight, all without telling me and for no apparent reason I can discern. Apparently no one taught them that "if it ain't broke, don't fuck with it".
Oh really? You are not on Shannon (or whatever it's called)? Seems their problems started happening when this site got slow and eventually *plop*.
I don't know what's going on. Now it sounds like they turned it off, for no reason. Perhaps someone tripped over the power cord. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Bloody idiots.
Well I am a bit confused myself now. But, I was a bit pissed so I did some investigating. As I said, there was a DDoS attack and a network admin had to kick a guy off the server because his site is the target of multiple DDoS attacks over a long period of time. And he has to keep moving. The admin had to redirect DNS servers and such. Oh well. The good thing is SF is back Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
in my opinion "sciforums" has a better look and feel than "the science forum" edit "sciforums" is all about the discussions, "the science forum" goes for the glitz, bells and whistles, that sort of thing. i also didn't like the way you kept having to manually go to the last unread post.
I registered at it some time ago so nobody else takes my nickname in case I ever need it there. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
