And other wierd ritual practices of religion. Puritans, Amish, Muslims, and Hacidic Jews are fun people for jokes, but something more serious must be responsible for their inhibitions. They wear strange garb, and keep to their age-old practices (puritans, of course are only of note in the historical sense). The faith of the Amish allows them to shun all forms of modern machinery, but isn't this just a more conservative version of the anti-science sentiment voiced by so many here as well as in congress? Hacidic Jews are more difficult to understand. What twisted mind invented the hole-in-the-sheet-sex-act. That just strikes me as perverse and somehow childish. Not to be outdone, Muslims force their women hide their faces and gather only with the same sex. Of course not all Muslims are as backword just like Hacidics are not representative of all Jews. I can understand going to church to keep up appearances, but the practices of some religions strike me as masichistic.
