You can get the same effect just by using your own brain and by living in an evolving culture.

You don't need the Bible to tell you to look both ways before you cross the street. People weren't killing each other to any greater degree before the Bible was written.

The Bible doesn't treat women (and slaves) very well. Shakespeare would be better but using ones brain is the best option of all.

    I know that's what you're saying, and I think you're right.

Men are a helluva lot more violent then anything else on Earth. We kill by the millions.

If people adhered to just one commandment, the whole wide world would change. Do not murder basically.

I'm for real, have you got anything original to say?

I doubt that there is really anything "original" to say...something that has never been said before.

Quoting the Bible is hardly "original" however.

This is a religious forum, so I do feel the need to paste scripture when in the correct context, that's original.

Nothing new under the Sun... I believe this, even though folks might be confused by this due to what I've been writing, but that's another story.

That's doesn't mean we are more violent, it just means we have better tools. Of course, apes are also violent, it must have been a trait that aids survival on some level.

If the Bible is such a great guide to morality, why don't the 10 commandments mention rape or slavery? They do seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on livestock however...

    • There is no evidence that the Jews were ever enslaved by the Egyptians.

Actually you're right... you and me aren't to blame, it was a select few that give the orders at the top.

I tend to use the Bible more as a historical reference, which is mostly inspired(my opinion) by one mind. As for rape and slavery, well we know they're wrong.

    Oh wait.
We "know" rape and slavery are wrong, but we have to be told that murder [1] is also wrong?
How about the uncomfortable fact the Bible implicitly condones, if not outright supports, both rape AND slavery?

1 Actually the commandment says "kill" - something the Bible ALSO promotes.

    Supports rape/kill? Verses in context.

Being a servant used to be a good job, in fact it's not a bad number now for some, unless you have to hold prince Charles' cock while he has a piss.

    Right...
Is that your way of ignoring the quotes in the links?

    Quite possibly.
But bugger all to do with slavery.

    Nice try though ...

This quote system always catches me out. Your source "The Evil Bible", so this passes as an authentic source? I want to hear it from you, I want to test your biblical knowledge, otherwise why would I bother with a time waster?

    Yeah, it's also the truth.

    Oh right.
You looked at the TITLE and completely ignored the fact that it uses direct quotes directly from the Bible.
    Way to go.

Given your reply to me from a couple of days ago [1], I'm not sure you can tell the difference between rational argument and time wasting.

    But irrelevant, like I said.
The Bible condones SLAVERY - servants aren't slaves.

1 The one where you asked me to prove my rebuttal but couldn't be bothered to provide any support at all for a specific claim made by you - that which is asserted without evidence may be refuted without evidence.

Basically you're telling me you don't actually understand or/and care to research the bible for yourself, something you failed to address from the post you're replying to? Selected quotes which you should know I'll answer.

What post did I fail to address?

I mean real evidence, not a story in a book.

Also, I appreciate your graciousness about this conversation, it seems like as soon as someone here says they believe in the Bible, they get attacked, and I don't think that's always appropriate.

Ah, you can't read, perhaps you should learn how to do that, instead of making things up that I have neither said not implied.
What I AM telling you is that there are direct quotes in the bible that condone rape, slavery and killing.

And yet you can't be bothered to look at my links and "answer" those.

Another failure to read... go back and look at what was written.
