It was Happeh that first brought me to this forum - although I first found his whacky shit randomly surfing on youtube (masturbation was not one of my keywords - HONEST!).

Under the misguided impression that Happeh Theory was something that wierd Californians with too much spare time and money actually beleived in ( instead of the whacky theories of just one guy in the whole world) , I googled it and ended up here.

No offense, but that strikes me as yet another dull predictable thing to do when a form of perceived authority presents itself.

Seems like the internet has been around for long enough to the point where people should expect rules and moderators to exist on any bulletin board they decide to join. People (excluding complete n00bs) should already consider monkeying with the interwebz as passe. Who cares about some dumb random forum centered around a topic they care nothing about. There's millions of them.

 

This isn't directed at you Om, however you post knocked on something that should be commented on.

The worlds governments are constantly threatening to *force* tighter controls on the internet. Mainly to do with the increase in organized crime which incidentally isn't just limited to gangster types or white collar criminals.

There are a lot of High School Kids out there that have started "Hacking"... at least that's what they think they are doing by coercing someone into believing they've won a prize and gaining access to a windows Live account... in reality it's actually plain and simple "Fraud" and not "Hacking" at all.

I guess you can say that while moderators exist and might be seen as those that make rules or try to conform to them, they are the last frontier in trying to keep the governments out of total internet domination.

So when people say they hate mods, you only have to look at China for the Alternative.

they fear that people might find laws that will help them.
they fear people will find alternatives to the placebos they offer.
they especially fear they will lose control over what and where people buy (or trade)
governments, especially repressive ones, fear ANY type of open source media.
software makers fear the GNU licensing that has a toehold.
microsoft stands to lose the most in this regard.

write to your senators people and urge them to keep the 'net open and free.
