as horrible as it was, it was a preventative measure to keep hitler from expanding further east. stalin didnt want hitler on his doorstep, im sure....so he used eastern europe as a buffer. simple strategy to allow military buildup. i believe stalin would have attacked the germans, had hitler not beaten him to the punch.
There was a non-aggression treaty between Germany and the USSR, not an alliance. The invasion of Poland wasn't "helping" Germany so much as Russia staking its claims on Polish territory - something they'd had in mind for years. They just took advantage of the German invasion to help themselves.
nah i dout it cuase hitler was the only man stalin like posibly loved thats why he wouldent heed the advice hitler was going to atack himj
Stalin ignored intelligence information that Germany was planning an attack (gathered by Richard Sorge IIRC), and flatly refused to believe that an attack would be forthcoming. There is a new book out which, supposedly, shows that Stalin was preparing an attack against Germany but from what I've read it's mostly pro-Nazi propaganda and unsupported by the disposition of Soviet military units at the time.
interesting...my statement above was complete speculation based on what i know of stalin's personality and info gleaned from people that lived under his rule.

With tons of help from us and the USA. All of which he conveniently ignored and denied after the war.
many units from the allied countries in exile also helped. i know polish units were attched to british forces on d-day i'm almost positive french forces were there and probably others
i know for exapmple polis sumbrines in the royal navy and in the battle of britian polish units got the best kill ratio
