The setiscreen saver gets its data downloaded to your computer from seti at Berkley, England. This data originates from the Arecibo Radio Astromony Dish.

You lot should ask for a proper distributed computing forum
to support SETI and the other projects

Well, I just had a look at the Phoenix Rising Forum.

Looks good mate. I don't know if a special Seti@home Forum will survive here at Sciforums. Guess some more members have to join the Seti project then.

It's not a bad idea, though.

I am voting for a Seti Forum. I think it will bring more members to join in crunching work units for sciforums.com. Then members can compare the progress they make in making WU's and which team stands where. Maybe the competition spirit what that concerns is not high enough here.

Guess it'll be easier when there is an apart Forum for this.

Perhaps I'll join sciforums.com then with making WU's. Am not sure, I am quite happy at the Seti@Netherlands Forum at the moment. There is a chance, always, that I step over to here...maybe...

Crunching for SETI has become almost a cult status thing. With minimual outlay in capital SETI has managed to find that certain niche. No need to buy and maintain a huge computer that is always trying to catch up. Home users have supported SETI in a big way, with sites on the internet around the world devoted to to SETI or attached to SETI in some way. Well over 3 million users are or have done this. As was noted in Banshee's link over 300,000 hours are logged per year. People, that is a lot of computer time.
