Is SciForums turning into more of a social forum rather than a strictly science one? If we observe the various threads people have begun in recent months we see a pattern of not wanting merely to express individual scientific theory but also personality and emotions. From what I gather there has been a steering away of this socializing by the current members (those with more influence). It is understandable but we must first recognize what is happening in order to combat the changes it has on the forum itself. Let's examine the meaning of the forum to properly place threads in context. Examine these: http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=75296 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=74772 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=75005 At first glance it's clear these postings are very odd, they go against the rather scientific approach the forum has instead opting for one mixed with persona. They clearly have no real value and let me state that while the Forum is Free Thoughts this likely was never meant to mean these sorts of things, instead it means Free Thoughts that revolve around scientific concepts at their base. As we can see above no scientific concepts are displayed yet the posts exist non-the-less. Here is are a few threads that would qualify as a Free Thought http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=67947 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=75057 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=75105 As we can see they possess a certain sciency feeling to them, one that asks basic questions of interest to someone that likes science, whether fiction or not. Under Site Feedback we see some unusual things going on, observe these: http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=75146 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=74180 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=74448 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=73725 From what we can see these are very odd to be placed in the area they are, these are more about the current moderators and their decisions than of the site itself. Yet here they are under the feedback area as if they are feedback, which in plain fact they are not. Feedback is anything that offers opinions about the site. Now what constitutes feedback then? Well some of these are excellent: http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=73351 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=74096 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=74515 http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=72781 As we can see these are correctly placed and should be allowed in the area they live in. Now for the finale, those posts classified incorrectly IMO. This while being placed in the Cesspool is really more of World News and therefore in the wrong place. http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=73982 This item is really Human Science and the idea it is not there can only cause confusion as to why. http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=74931 This post is certainly oddly placed, it surely is Religious in nature yet is removed from that forum: http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=75203 This is a post that should be in About The Members but has been moved for whatever reason: http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=47760 So what does all this say? It tells us there is an incorrect classifying of threads into forums, while at first glance it's benign it certainly does leave us feeling confused and conflicted. The end result is the people may or may not be confused. Thank you ~ darkie
People need to communicate with each other to develop new ideas about things. Those things lead others to develop new scientific things to benifit humankind. It all starts fron just one idea you know. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
When I see a lenghty list of URL's, I am not at all fond of clicking those links. In fact, it's off-putting. If an URL leads to a titled document, it's best to post it with its title, like this: Sci-Social?.
