So i have an MX-5 and whenever i wash the windscreen (doesn't matter what with and yes ive tried new blades) it makes this oily looking smeer right in front of where i need to see!

I have tried newspaper and vinegar.
I have tried specialised windscreen cleaner.
I have changed the wiper blades.

I don't know what else to do so my next step is Science!

Does anyone possibly have any idea of what this could be and how to get rid of it!!

    Thank you

Does this occur when water is poured on the windshield, or just when a cleaner is applied?

It could be some kind of oil or grease - something you could try would be to mix one part Palmolive or Dawn dish soap with two to three parts water and use a soft sponge or cloth to rub it across the area - do this a few times, drying with a clean cloth each time. If it's grease or oil of some sort, it should remove it.

Thanks, ill give that a go too. Does it have to be Dawn? We probably have a different brand at home

And yes even just with water and only when it wipes. then it slowly disappears but can take a few mins or a few seconds depending on what it feels like which is dangerous.

I used this product about 6 times in an attempt to remove it assuming it was oil. The labels say it removes oil.

Any dish soap able to cut through grease should work

Hm... not familiar with that product, but the reviews look positive enough...

if you let it dry, then rub the windshield with a dry, clean cloth, do you feel it "hitch" when it gets to the spot where the film is?

It doesn't dry as such but goes clear after about 5 mins and slides off the glass.
