Its unlikely that it will ever be possible or, if possible, done. It could however be theoretically possible, but it would probably require genetic engineering of sperm and egg cells rather than engineering a person.
Immortal is a big word though. IF its ever possible to engineer DNA in such a way it would probably add decades or (unlikely) centuries to human life. Immortality is something entirely different.
It's not about whether or not it's possible, it's about whether or not you TRY to achieve it, regardless of what you are '''supposed'' to do.
