With that regard, I suppose my initial questions will never be answered.

*****Why are there so many ruffles when it comes to pornography?

Pornography is simply worship of the body. It "tricks" a person into idolizing the flesh - and religion (Western religion at least) holds steadfast to taboos against "false idols."

In a strict sense, Porn is the reverie of something other than the Almighty Lord. It is the concentration of vital essesence on something other than Heaven, Love, and God. It is animalistic, and therefore pitiful.

This taboo has tranferred over to the social structure because we (humans) are suppose to be above our animalistic instincts. Anything the remotely links us to Humanism will inevitably be considered Satanic (against God.)

Sadly, the majority suppress these instincts, fueling the negative connotations of Porn with fear and regret - consequently strengthening the taboo.

*****Human beings naturally have a good dose of pornography in their heads, whenever they watch/see something, uh, "stimulating"... Why is pornography also so addictive?

Anything "fun" or "stimulating" can be addicting. This varies from individual to individual...

Why does society view magazines like Hustler and porn videos as indecent?

*****As answered in my longwinded debates, I don't think "society" has a problem with it... At least not the majority of society; and the direction that we are going, they we be considered downright wholesome.

I think you all missed the point. Pornography reduces human beings to binary objects without feedback. Sociologically, porn on average results in violent abuse- many pornographic films portray (women most of the time) in violent situations or situations that are suggestive of violence or rape. Even dark eye shadow is suggestive of battering. There is certainly a religious element to it, but then you would have to explain why 90% of the pornography industry is run by Jews. Religious morality here is clearly being set aside.

There is nothing amoral about it. The human body IS an object. Notice no one says that watching sports reduce human beings to objects. So, why should porn?

Cause regardless of the religious morality of it... that's where the $$$ is.

    -----------

It's a touch subject really. Personally, I have no qualms about pornography as long as it is targetted to adults. I think that the social "problems" occur because the age range of the audience lowers each year...

I have more problems with the sexualization of youth then with pornography in general. Unfortunately, the two are becomming hard to seperate...

Exactly... but people hold sex to a higher standard because of puritanical thinking.

Interesting point Spidergoat. You never hear any men complain about how body building contest "objectify" them, or promote unrealistic body ideals. But you sure hear those complaints about the Miss America contest.

Ultimately the double standard comes from women not being visually stimulated the way that men are. Women don't like porn, and they want men to not like it either. Which isn't going to happen.

    * only skimming through this long thread due to time constraints *

I have a friend who is a huge porn addict. He has shown me porn involving ten and eleven year old girls. THey are being shown as objects. I disagree if women are being potrayed as "bling bling", but I also think that women should have the right to be sexy.

As they say, when an argument reaches the point of comparison to Hitler or Smoking, it is hopeless. we have reached that point.

    Personal opinion:

Porn is neither the worship of the body nor the objectification of the female form.

Its the letting out of the two things in the world that never lie to us and can put the world's philosophies to shame when they flare: the clit and the scrotum.

It is the pleasure of seeing a woman finally put to good use and the burning of the loins with delight.
Its the knowing that in this world where each and everyone of you would be shot in cold blood were there no consequences to answer to because I hate that we share the same rank in the animal kingdom, you fucking hypocrites, that at least my dead soul comes alive again to my flesh when I'm horny.

    All hail porn.

Now that's a good friend... Would you let him babysit your daughter?

    Ah, a true humanist.

I've dated several that absolutely love porn. Are they just conforming? And what about my ex girlfriend who was addicted to lesbian porn (and liked to be fucked while watching lesbos), but never let me actually bring another chick into the mix..?

    What's up with that?

Your anecdotes don't change the truth that is obvious on any magazine rack. I've even read that over half of the readership of Playgirl are gay men.

Sure, many women like to look, but not nearly as much as men do.

    Pause.

    Hmm.

Interesting..now, this is very humanist of me, for its the love of our species that moves me to ask this of you: You say she liked being fucked while watching these flicks. Details- can you give us any?
Its for scientific reasearch and all that bullshatta. Of course.

There is harmless porn and there is harmful porn.

Harmless porn involves consenting adults who are not pressured into doing what they are doing. Harmful porn involves people who either cannot or do not give informed consent.

Watchers of porn are tarred with the same brush, depending on which kind of porn they watch. It is they who are driving the industry.

I would agree with you James. But this discussion becomes tainted by both feminist and religious dogma.

I am still surprised at how many people still accept feminist dogma regarding images of both nude women, and nude adults in general. Despite their complete inability to provide any evidence that porn leads to rape, repeating it loud and often has served to make it an article of faith.

As a comedian I heard once said, "The use of porn leads to rape? When I use porn, it leads to a sandwich and a nap!"

Because we still live in caves of course. We are all aware that the human body is an object and we are all aware that the underlying goal of life is mindless reproduction. All civilized systems maintain their stability through filtering out undesirable activies and this includes the objectification of other human beings.

Sports and porn are not good comparisons in my mind. And to some degree, men are concerned about the objectification of their bodies in sports. But instead of starting campaigns against it, they buy into it through a cultural construction of masculinity. Notice the increase of the biceps on action figures, are you to tell me that boys do not try to live up to these fictionalized characters?

Porn may not directly effect YOU in particular. I am not concerned about the interests of you or I, I am concerned about the health of society as a whole. If you wish to engage in sexual delights, then it should be between real human beings (or animals, whatever your taste).

I agree with James R. Porn should be an act between two consenting partners, not a bunch of drunken 13 year old high school girls paid off by some pervert who worships God (Money).

If you enjoy porn that is alright with me as well, but I know many a man who cannot even have a rational conversation with a female without making reference to their bodies and to me they are rather emotionally disturbed human beings who have a difficult time adjusting to everyday life.

And what have you accomplished afterwards? Typically escapism. Perhaps there is a deeper personal issue you should address...namely: your life in general.

The most staggering effect of this post-sexual revolution is the desenstization of it all. Are we really all that excited about seeing a naked body any more? Are we at all that entertained by rap music videos? A woman in the USSR once commented that sex was as simple as drinking a glass of water. Is that the mentallity we wish to spread? Where sex is simply five seconds of half-hearted orgasm? Fetishes are on the rise, further evidence that simple sex between two people or even three people isn't even enough anymore. You go from being the 12 year old kid sneaking a peak at the funny magazines in daddy's bedroom to downloading millions of gigs of child porn just to get a thrill.
