Don't most monotheistic religions hold abstinence in high regards? It seems to be a non-necessity, unlike food or water or air, yet we crave it. The ability to say no to sex, or be monogomous, seperates us from most animals. Isn't the issuse of sex in Christianity mostly have to do with God saying: "Keep your body for me, don't bother with other people." Free sex carries many problems, first of all are STDs, and second are illigetimate children. I think, if one looks at religion as social cohesion, that the patriarchal societies of the Middle East were very concerned with who's child was who. That's the basis of carrying on the father's lineage and inheritance and so forth. And third is the psychological attachments that come with sex. If you turn these off, or disregard them, then sex isn't much different from what animals do, and in the bible, we were created different from animals. Fourth, if we want to psychoanalyze God, original sin was eating forbidden fruit and becoming mortal. So sex is directly linked to Man's first transgression. Man needed Woman to procreate and survive, and vice versa. The mortality of makind pushed God out of the picture, and made God jealous.
Well, since I do not believe in the bible, I am still of the opinion that sex, respectively porn, is something natural. And I don´t think that natural things are bad. And I don´t see a problem with STD´s or bastards, if everyone would use condoms at the appropriate moments, it wouldn´t be an issue. And why are there STD´s? Perhaps because of our unnatural society or lifestyle? I am no so sure, but have animals STD´s? But well, there are still condoms. And what about bastards? Some problem with that? If there is a proper social network, it would also be no issue.
Condoms aren't a cure-all. They break. STDs are natural in the way that diseases are natural, and yes, animals get them. Our lifestyle would not have occured if there wasn't something good in it. Monogomy tends to support children the best; few societies have ever regarded bastards or their mothers, or their fathers, very highly. This didn't happen without reason. Perhaps it requires two people to raise a child, one to provide and one to nurture. One person cannot do both and do a good job at it. Biologically speaking, the adults with the most reason to raise the child are its biological parents. Pornography encourages behavior that differs from this norm, and thus deemed bad.
Sheesh, bad is affixed to far too many things today. And as I said, if there is a proper social net, bastards should be no problem. I heard that they are commonly recognized in Island... So animals do get STDs ? That´s interesting. Of course condoms are not an all-heal, but they help a great deal. And seriously, who cares, we all die one day. I would rather die from something I have gotten through sex than be killed by some guy who needs money and has a knive.

Sex itself is a natural animalistic urge. The only thing holding us back from being able to screw (or "rape", if you prefer) anyone/thing we choose is because we've become a bit more civil. Only humans have porn yet that's not stopping every other living creature from boinking (or "raping", if you prefer again) whomever they choose. Porn is not the reason for rape. - N
Clearly you haven't watched the History Channel's "The History of Sex", which traces the history of pornography back to early Egyptian times. And that's like halfway through the show, when I actually flipped the channel and saw it so it probably goes back even earlier. Thank goodness I had the good sense to block that lewd channel. Whew!
ok, I just want to make sure I'm reading this correctly. You are honestly trying to argue that, historically, pornography precedes rape... is that what you are trying to say? I can see it now. Sometime in the distant past, all was well and sexual violence was unknown. And then one terrible day, after looking at a naked stick woman on his cave wall, the first rapist caveman struck! If only junior hadn't scratched that crude picture onto the wall!
i think both are sufficiently old enough to say that it doesnt matter. however, i would say that rape preceeds pornography. as buffys jokingly mentioned, before eygytian times you are getting into the age of stick drawing, which are not that erotic. however, i can see rape happening for as long as there have been concepts of it, since in ye really old times noone proabably cared. my knowledge of times that far gone are, though, rather limited.
