What do you think about this type of marraige? Not from a moral or legal perspective, but from a personal perspective(in other words, I don't want replies saying anthying...consenting adults...blah, etc.).
Dear Oniw Thank you for staring this thread PJ - word of warning, in Islam there are many conditions for marrying more than one woman such as you have to get the approval of your previous wives and you have to treat all wives equally, in terms of finance, care, love etc.. As no sane woman would give her approval (without being forced) and that it is impossible to treat people equally, this goes to show that on todays world this can never be part of Islam. However if you just think you want to marry more than one woman (religion aside) than go for it!!! However be prepared for an unprecedented amount of Nagging. i really cant undertsand guys who can have more than one woman on the go at any one time. The amount of stress through thier constant nagging will be enough to drive even the best of men to the lunatic assylum!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~ take it ez zak
Polyfidelity is a form of polyamory, which differs from polygamy because it has no religious or cultural basis.
It's odd that your quote should say there is little to no overlap, when previous to that, it says they overlap much, the difference being in the foundation for the relationship.
If it's among consenting adults (or people of legal age to give such consent), I don't see aything wrong with it. Personally, I'm too territorial to consent to it myself. But I wouldn't knock someone else who wanted to do it.
It's not marriage. I think it is a very evolved form of relationship. But, of course, it is more complex then a normal nuclear family type of relationship. It requires every person involved to be 100% secure about all their relationships. I once heard a very interesting saying... The saying talked about marriage and relationships. You need to marry the person who you want to have kids with, and share dreams with, but you also need to go out and not marry someone who you just want to have fun with. Me and my wife are completely in favour of this concept. We date, and we also allow each other to date other people, if we feel like it. And she doesn't mind me dating her syster either... Isn't there a small following in America which promotes (or at least allows) polyfidelity? I can't remember the name of the denomination.
Mormons are poligamysts. That's another thing altogether. Marrying more then one person....? No way! That's too much! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
The LDS church renounced polygamy more than a hundred years ago. Get over it. The wackos in Arizona and Utah who practice polygamy call themselves Mormons just because it gives them a false air of legitimacy. They are not Mormons. Mormons are one of the most law-abiding communities in America and when the government told them to quit practicing polygamy they just quit. Here it says that polygamy and polyamory overlap in theory, in the dictionary. Here it says that that overlap does not carry over into practical usage. I see no contradiction here. Who coined the stupid word "polyamory" anyway? A Greek root mixed with a Latin root. It should by something like "polyeros" or "polyerotics."
Fraggle I didn't know that about the LDS. Thanks. I had a Mormon friend when I was little, but the subject never came up. She just had a very large family and I guessed that they just didn't practice polygamy in California. Serves me right for not asking!
I think it's actually more natural than monogamy. I think most people are not designed for monogamy but want to pretend to be, and fake it, and the result is serial monogamy. So if a person has to choose between which is more ethical, polyfidelity or serial monogamy, polyfidelity is more ethical than serial monogamy because less people are harmed/hurt by it.
