They have around 4-500 of them at one store in NY. I think it's worht $500. plus blue ray player. I would also spend the money on a killer NVidia graphics card though. BUT it is still much cheaper than a comperable PC rig.
I have a lot of friends that swear by this system. Depends on the person, really. I've never been a big console gamer. More of a PC gamer.. I like the use of a mouse.
Oh sorry, Dreamcast. I'm fearful of the PS3 just because of the price... but I'll also feel bad for people that buy it and it turns out to be a flop. All my friends are going for the Nintendo Wii (or whatever it is).
The local gamestore has about a block-long line right now. The news has also been showing tons of Playstation 3 buyers all over the tri-state area (New York metropolitan). I expect it to be the big thing this year, just as the 360 had similar news stories last. The Wii is too gimicky, lacks games associated with an adult-male demographic, and has no ethnic appeal (the Playstation is huge amongst blacks and latinos as well as whites).
Hell yes the PS3 is worth $500 In reality, the PS3 is worth around $1,500! The $600 PS3 will have a Blue Ray player. Blue Ray players are currently selling for $999 or more. Plus you're getting a gaming system with HI DEF graphics (all games), WI-FI, Webroswer, 60 Giga Bites of Storage, etc. This gaming system is definately worth the money.
WOW, that frickin rocks man. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Are there any blue ray disks out? What's the bandwith of blue ray anyway?
Blu-ray holds 50GB of data per disc, but the reader's in the PS3 are so friggin' slow at 2x! It takes like 10 minutes to install 5GB of data to the hard drives. All their games require to be installed otherwise you'll be waiting literally forever on the load times. With a 20 GB hard drive, that means you can only play 4 games at once with no other content. Disc size mean very little for gaming especially when you install files to hard drives as that's when hard drive sizes matter the most. Disc sizes are only important for read-only formats such as movies and music, unless you're the type that rips everything to your hard drive anyways. Why do you think PC games still ship in multiple CDs or DVDs? After you install the games to your hard drive, those discs aren't needed anymore. Blu-ray and HD-DVD will both fail. They're just not innovative enough as when going from record to tape, tape to CD, or VHS to DVD. - N
I really wish that I jumped on the PS3 train as far as resale goes. So many going for $2,000 Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
A Tech show in the UK did suggest why bother with HD-DVD or Blueray, when you can go out and buy a decent Harddrive for peanuts with a greater amount of storage capacity. It's something I actually agreed with, however can you imagine a console using a system similar to the old Cartridge system but installing External harddrives per game?
Most games will probably fit onto a dual layer DVD - 9gigs... If not, use 2. Or 1 dual and 1 single = 13.5gigs. Or 73 for the next final fantasy. Then have a 500GB hard drive in the ps3 - rip everything to the HD and play from there. Would make a lot more sense and improve read times. But oh no. I have HDadvance/use the exploit for the ps2 - allows you to rip games to the hd and play without the disc - and it works brilliantly. San Andreas loads in seconds, doesn't jump, etc. Everything works a lot better and you have the added benefit of being able to use homebrew software. If one was so inclined, they could rent or borrow a game, rip it and it would be theirs, or download .iso's and just transfer them across.
Un-freakin-belieeeeeeeeeeeeeeevable. These things have sold for $15000 (only one or two sold for that much) on EBay. Wow. I feel like an idiot for not having pre-ordered one or two for my retirement fund. It's amazing to me that people have that kind of money to shit out for this. Wowowowow. What a return on investment! What a bunch of people with too much money! http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SONY-PLAYST...051710035QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Hmm.. looks like there is some fake bidding going on to boot. Bunch of crazy bitches. Upon review, it looks like there was a LOT of fake bidding going on there. One of the high bidder's handle is "ihategreedypeople". Lol. Funny.
Same thing happened with the Tickle me Elmo right? Parents auctioning their cars, or just trading them upfront for one.
It's a piece of shiite. Most console games are boring.. too much of the same rehashed garbaged, little to no innovation with most money spent on marketing to wealthy idiots. And don't suppose that the Wii is somehow better for its' controller. The only thing that could have redeemed the Nintendo 'console' was the free inclusion of all classic first party games (from NES to N64).. which is not happening. I am %100 satisfied with my mid-range PC.
Man... Maybe I should buy it when I get the money and then put it on eBay. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
