Somewhere in the last few months, YouTube made it difficult to avoid playlists. You click on a video on an uploader's page, it finishes, then another begins. Mind you, this is without meaning to click on a playlist. So, you disable autoplay. But every time you click on another video, autoplay is enabled again. So you disable it again. And YouTube enables it again (they really want you to watch playlists!).
I found a solution! Using Firefox, get Greasemonkey, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/
Once you have Greasemonkey installed, go here: https://greasyfork.org/scripts/3433-playlist-remover "Disables annoying auto-playing playlist on videos clicked from anywhere except an actual playlist page"
This solved the problem for me.
