"People skills" are like any other skills. They can be used for any purpose.

Con men are notorious for their ability to read people; it's a required skill for their job. The same is true of cops. When I was a manager for a municipal government we attended a seminar by a psychologist, and he said the highest-scoring group he had ever encountered (in people skills) was our police force. They can always tell if someone is lying.

It's also the skill used by stage magicians, spirit mediums, faith healers, etc. They do what's called a "cold reading" and use that both to discover things that they haven't been told and to gain their customers' confidence. The best and most honorable astrologers, palm readers, etc., use it to help their clients. It isn't the star chart that solves people's problems, it's the unorthodox style of psychotherapy used clandestinely on people who would never go to a real shrink.

    From Sam's article:

"Let's put our greatest emphasis on learning how to live with each other. "

Unfortunately, the cults of the world won't allow that.
