This one has always confused me - why is the Devil sometimes referred to as Saint Nick? He is the fallen angel, not a canonised human - besides, isn't Saint Nicholas more linked with Father Christmas?

I thought the Devil's name was Lucifer. So wouldn't he be Saint Lucifer? I don't know I've never heard that one.

the "devil" was one of gods angels until that angel "fell from grace" so to speak.
that one sentence alone proves there is no such thing as an all powerful, perfect god.

I've heard "Old Nick", but not "Saint Nick". Source?

That's a great question but surprisingly there is no relation. Santa Clause is a western adaptation of some religious observed customs that involved St. Nicholas or Old Saint Nick. Remember the wooden shoe bit where the kids would hope for the goods as opposed to a lump of coal?

Now "Old Nick" is a reference to a dutch mythological character Nikken or Nokke that is cross likened to Lucifer in the Christian religion.

I have a cool and humorous book at home on the various incarnations of the devil in ancient and modern times.
