Arguments about the effectiveness of minimum post requirement strategies to combat spam (20 posts of nonsense, then spam, for example) aside, haven't we always had a minimum post requirement before links can be posted anyway? I can certainly recall it being mentioned on numerous occasions by new members. I can only guess that it's been removed, perhaps because we are indeed starting to see strings of trivial contributions by new members, and then spam.

Anyway, the main reason I'm posting is because some forum software implements a "mark as spam" link on every post (which changes to "mark as NOT spam" once you click it, in case you change your mind) and will eventually automatically remove a post once a certain threshold (number of clicks, or spam reports) is reached. It would be great to see something like that implemented here.

The problem of course is that the system is open to abuse. Whether or not such abuse occurs however depends on the nature of the community. Would it be abused here? I'm not sure. But if such a feature can be implemented with vBulletin, might it not be worth a trial?

Alternatively, how feasible would an extension to the existing reporting functionality be that sent spam reports to a queue accessible to a new class of moderators whose powers extend only to the moderation of spam reports?

Just thought I'd throw around a few ideas, as someone who also hates spam with a passion. Being able to click "mark as spam" links on other forums always makes me feel like I'm doing my part.
