sorry -- i read your reply too quickly; got a different impression: so, "they" is Zoran and company, and "they've" been posting here already as new admin... i haven't read much about these recent developments except by skimming the headlines here and there... "logo contest", "ownership", "as you know...", etc ...so, you figure Zoran and company aren't as temperamental and tyrannical as Porfiry was when he was confronted by GUI critiques from the masses (how can we forget gendanken's humiliating ban. my-my-my. wasn't that fun.)
Spurious made a compelling argument [post=1167414]here[/post] that what goes on here is not 'science' and is often not even discussion of real science. But, there is a huge difference between the discussions that take place here and the crap that goes on in the pseudoscience forums (well. Used to take place. Pseudoscience is a bit quiet these days. Thank Moloch. ET must go. I liked the old logo. Not only for nostalgic purposes. Perhaps the new owners don't understand what it represents. It is an entry on the periodic table of elements. The funky symbol is some eastern symbol. I forget what. Om or something like that... I think we could do without that... Rather like the alien motif, if you ask me... But at least it's obscure. Look at it with a new perspective and maybe you might think that it's not so bad. Maybe you should clean it up a bit. Modify it a hair? But keep the general idea? Maybe some good ideas will come from the logo contest. Oh. Come on. Don't be fucking retarded. "Omg guyz!!! This place looks weird!!! Run away! Run away!!!!" It is kind of strange, but now I think I understand what it must have been like when the forum changed appearances the last time. That was just a slight bit before my time. Heh. I think Zoran and cronies are doing pretty damned good so far. All things considered. Speaking of the font. I wonder if Mr. Anonymous is going to start using a serif font in his posts?
Well after a while, I think I am used to the forum now. Actually it feels better than before, 'cept the alien. The logo looks cool but I'm not sure it fits in with this forum.
The alien is stupid. Also, it hurts m eyes. I find it difficult to read posts, and having to refresh the page yourself when making a post is annoying. Edit: Ok, I guess having to refresh the page yourself when you post was just something that happened to me a minute ago. It didn't do that when I posted this.
some has already been mentioned, but to enphasise: 1)love the improved functionality 2)quickposts don't show up until you refresh manually 3)grey bar is a bit large for the unused space (moving the grey info line next to instead of underneith the avatars might help. Or maybe have the name ontop, the avatar undernieth, and the infoline next to the avatar.) 4)I like post counts, I also like "member since" info. While seniority isn't a sign of intelligence or helpfullness, it does help to weed out the "I'm going swing in, blast a few cazy posts, and never return" type from my brain. 5)what's the green/grey dot mean? 6)not so hot about the alien; it's a cool logo, but doesn't fit the goal of the site, IMO. I like the background image.
I liked the original look from years past the most. This one.. it seems the posts are smaller than the header. 1. Increase font-size 2. Move user cp faq etc. up to the upper right 3. I like the new logo 4. Less clutter.
1. the font is too small, it's hard to read. if it stays this size i'll have to increase my screen resolution to 640X480. 2. the grey bar with our names and avatar is too wide. 3. the alien logo is out of place. we should ditch it and just use the background image. the background image in my opinion is excellent.
