You are making me repeat myself. Are you asserting that because something is "natural" it has no side effects?

    No there are

    hence Natural Pathic doctors

But what I like about the Natural foods , spices and herbs it that , they have what the body needs or is lacking

Therefore the negative side affects are considerably less , if at all

You have to be careful , but as I said , the CAUSE of the disease is because the body is lacking in nutrients , exercise and diet

For instance if the overall body ph is acidic then you invite disease such as cancer

There are foods and diet , along with herbs and spices that over time can bring the ph back to an alkaline level

No offense, River, nothing personal, but that's a bunch of bullshit.

    Ignorance always says this....

The thing is what would save your ignorance would be an inquisitive mind , of which all intelligent people have

And being inquisitive means that you would , " investigate and given to examination "

So do so , assuming your are an intelligent person

I actually thought my last post had more to do with why some prescriptions/medicine are bad for you and society as a whole.

    @ spidergoat,
Home remedies is often simply recognizing what nutrition you are missing from your diet and compensating. If a Nutrition Advisor gave you advice would you think that was the same as crystal therapy?

I am assuming this thread came about as a thread about Acid Reflux home remedies was going off topic.

One home remedy for Acid Reflux is to incline the head of the bed. This has been been proven to work and is advised by doctors, however it is NOT MEDICINE. It is a home remedy. If you wish to discuss "Crystal Therapy" and "Magnetic Bracelets" then you should start a witch doctor thread. This thread is about home remedies.

I will list some that are science proven.

    a) The previously mentioned Baking Soda and water to calm stomach acid. This is basic grade 9 chemistry. Not a medicine, although Alka Seltzer comes close.
    b) Baking soda and Vinegar make a very acidic teeth whitener. It works better than anything store bought, but is not approved by medicine as it is too acidic and removes protective coatings from teeth. It can be used to whiten teeth though if you use care and restraint. This is fact and not "crystal Therapy".
    c) Egg peels facial masks are not medicine but can deep clean pores and help attack acne problems. Probably medical equivalents, but unsure.
    d) Hot oil treatments are known to help dry hair. I do not know if there is a medicinal hot oil treatment.
    e) Body odor is often affected by diet, and therefore requires a home remedy/nutritional solution
    f) If you have never used Ginger Ale or Ginger tea to curb nausea then you have suffered needlessly. A tiny sip of Ginger goes a long way in settling nausea. If there is a medical equivalent then I am unsure of what it is.
    g) Also for nausea bland starches are proven home remedies. Mashed Potatoes or Rice. If you want to keep something down. Try those. A potato is not medicine. Maybe the doctor can prescribe some food you can hold down.

    @ spidergoat,
I could go on for a hundred pages on scientifically proven nutrients and methods to remedy yourself.

Having tiny carp nibble dead skin off your feet is not a medicine, but many people do it to beautify and stimulate nerve endings (better sense of touch in feet).

None of it would need to be "Crytsal/Magnet Therapy".

Some of us like to live healthy, and stay informed. Often home remedies might simply be prevention as in the egg mask facial peel.

You should also re-read my last posting. Disguising symptoms and playing with brain chemistry can also be unhealthy, and most medicines have unattractive side effects.

You would need to be delusional to think Home remedies meant "Crystal Therapy". Try the Witch Doctor Forum.

I think it's you who are an advocate of ignorance, since you seem to feel that the testing part of science (the careful investigation of things) is essentially worthless. According to you, trial and error are just as good.

I eat onions too, big deal. Plenty of people who died of cancer also ate onions.

Of course onions ALONE won't help , but onions with several other foods , in combination ,as well as spices and herbs could and thats my point

Explore the list and click on any food , spice and herb , what ever catches your fancy

Every food and spice and herb has all the same in depth info. That you found in exploring onions

    Enjoy

This thread should be in pseudoscience.

There is science behind nutritional information, but the idea that you can treat disease holistically with the correct foods is a part of the pseudoscience of Naturopathic Medicine.

Correct. And river being river failed to notice something important on that site. Even though they said that eating specific foods/herbs/spices could cure some diseases, they were VERY careful to never once CLAIM anything would actually CURE a *specific* disease. Not once anywhere!

That's because they know there's NO proof it really works and the fact that making such a claim would make them liable for all sorts of costly legal action.

Unfortunately, people like river just aren't bright enough to realize the importance of what ISN'T said. Sad, that.

This is part of the treatment of disease

But the real advantage of Naturopathic Medicine is preventative medicine

To not become ill in the first place

    what utter nonsense.

To say that the "science of nutrition" isn't up to speed with the treatment of disease is simply to point out, at best, how incomplete and lacking it is.

I mean diseases like cancer, once you already have it. There are certainly some diseases in which diet plays a part.

This make no sense at all  Does reveal your bias, however. Tell us - how did this scheme work out for Steve Jobs?

True...some diseases....not all disease though. There is a difference. Tell us - how did this scheme work out for Steve Jobs?

This ^ is what we call an ad hominum - that means literally "at the man". It is how someone who lacks a rational counter to another person's statement responds with a personal attack in a vain attempt to discredit the source of an (irritating) fact. Around here we refer to this as "epic fail".

    Make a note.

This ^ is another ad hom and as such does not qualify as a valid contribution to the discussion. Name - calling is frowned upon by most all of us here. It reflects much more on you than it does on your target. You are building a reputation for yourself with what you say, and that rep will follow you.

So you are now stating that cancer is caused by overall body pH being acidic? :bugeye: Have you been published in a peer - reviewed professional scientific journal yet? Please list your citations now, this statement requires serious proof. NOT some flaky 'new age' Internet site testimonial crap either.

Arsenic is natural and will certainly cure what ails you if you consume enough of it. Hard radiation will cause cancer and that has nothing to do with 'overall body pH being acidic'. This is an adult - oriented science site and there are requirements for participation in these discussions. If you make a statement you must be able to back it up with facts. While proper diet and exercise are both beneficial to maintaining good health they are not the end - all or be - all that you are making them out to be. No amount of healthy eating will prevent a brick in the head from giving you a bloody concussion.

I agree that this thread belongs in Pseudo Science. IMHO it is way too 'new age flaky' and chock full of unsubstantiated opinion that runs contrary to current health science.
