I don't see how more porn equaling less rape negates the "myth" that rape is primarily a violent action. Isn't it possible that those who would be raping women are simply using pornography as an outlet for their violent urges in some way? Isn't everything we do ultimately psycho-sexual anyway?

Could it be that areas which allow porn have some social conditions which discourage rape compared to places which do not allow porn? In other words, does the correlation between porn and less rape mean that more porn causes less rape?

    Fuck you.

I am all for sex, but with a boyfriend and when we both want it. Not when a random stranger feels like he needs some.

Do you honestly post anything that's not aimed to piss people off?

how is that aimed at pissing people off?

It's funny that society sees it like that... that women "give sex".

not when a random stranger feels like he needs some? you're talking like you have sex because men want it. don't you want sex?

Rape is having sex without consent. Sometimes violence, or the threat of it, is used to facilitate the rape. But claiming that rape is always about violence is confusing means and ends. Sure, some rapists beat the crap out of their victims and, in such cases, the rape/violense claim might hold some water. But I don't think you can make a blanket statement saying rape is always about violence.

It is forcing someone to have have sex. The act of forcing is violent. It might not seem violent; it might not include physical violence. Physical force doesn't have to be used in order for an act to be violent. Rapists disregard a person's rights and humanity in order to take advantage of and hurt them. I'm not confusing the ends and the means. I'm defining the act itself as violent.

i was just thinking... is it rape or even a crime aside from sexual harassment if for example a business owner tells one of his employees that she has to fuck him if she wants that promotion, and she does it? What if a woman consents out of fear that she gets fired? but still she consents.

Having sex for a promotion is prostitution, but it's not rape. Having sex with someone because you'll get fired if you don't might be considered rape, I think it depends on who you talk too. According to the Human Sexuality class I took last semester legally it is rape because your lively hood is being threatened. Of course personal opinion may differ quite a bit on the matter.

Say she had 10 kids who needed feeding?

Sure, she could still say no...but it would hardly be a free choice.

Coercion definitely, rape, I am not sure..

Is slipping someone "a mickey" violence? Is having sex with a girl so drunk she's passed out at a party violence?
I wasn't arguing that the act itself wasn't violent, but that the motivation is sex rather than violence.

I agree. Perhaps us men need to attach breathalizers to our dicks.

It's not automatically rape because she's drunk. That's asinine. If she's drunk and overconfident and ragingly horny and all over you, obviously it's not rape.

It's pretty easy to understand why more porn=less rape... a sexual outlet: rape is certainly an easier way to 'get' sex, especially for the socially awkward. Women today are obsessed with trying to not feel and look like a slut (stupid society construct), so it is more difficult to have sex when a man wants it. With the internet there is another way to get off, so somebody could be less inclined to go out and rape somebody to get sexual gratification... also there are quite a few websites that focus on rape fantasies.

Can we address the "if you wake her up every five minutes and have sex with her it's something and rape" thing? Is doing something like that really rape?

No, some people take the definition too far. Having an annoying partner doesn't make them rapists, it just makes them annoying. Rape is when you force, coerce, or manipulate a person into having sex with you. So even if someone does fight back, but they said no it's rape.

i agree, having an annoying partner makes you an idiot nothing more. If you agree you agree, you can walk away from the relationship if you want to

This is stupid. Porn does not always equal rape. Many ppl use porn as an outlet for sexual tension, as a way to indulge in a fantasy, or as foreplay with a partner.

    Everything is good in moderation.

The problem is, is that porn displays unrealistic depictions of how many men and women normally act in sexual situations. Not every man has a ten inch penis and can go for hours, not every woman likes a guy to come on her face nor does she spread her legs for every male that she comes into contact with and she doesn't come on cue. Someone who obsessively watches porn may confuse reality with fantasy, causing their behavior to change in a way that may be unhealthy or harmful to others.

ppl keep claiming that rape is about sex and not violence, domination, and control. Of course rape has a sexual component, but rape is about humiliation and domination: taking control of someones body in the most intimate way possible, degrading them through something that should be both private and pleasurable, forcing them to endure brutal and painful sex against their will, violating them in a way that damages many aspects of their emotional and physical lives. If rape was just about sex then wouldn't porn, strip clubs, sex clubs, prostitutes etc. be enough to stop it? No. Because rape is not just about sex.

While porn has many positive aspects when used by responsible adults it is not a band-aid for rape. And not ALL feminists think that porn is bad. That is a stereo-type.

Even then, what do we do about child rape? Should child-porn be provided to pedophiles to keep them from actually raping young boys and girls? NO!

Porn is a gray area. Rape is not. It doesn't matter if it's a man, woman, or child...rape is wrong and damages ppl sometimes beyond repair. Rape is not just about sex and porn does not necessarily cause rape. Porn may be an intelligible language for rapists...it might give them ideas or excite fantasies that they want to reenact or that they feel compelled to act upon, but porn and rape do not always share a causal relationship.
