LG either has no skills or maybe mistakenly deals with this situation like a gentleman.

i bet bet ben is tearing his hair out. how dare jamesr turn on us? ha! if that guy calls for backup....we aint going.

what evidence? your accusation of communiques thru the pm sys? lets see it. how egregious that is actually. the gall of LG canvassing the neighborhood. loser, democracy will never be allowed to take root in sci

the poll is a scam? how so? lets see the evidence

you offer up ideological POV's as reason for a particular voting pattern? plausible and usually the norm but where is the evidence that it is so here?

are you a crackpot? it certainly seems so.
you embark on a appeal for votes on an emotional level. tit for tat?

i am more hardcore and rational than you could ever be. for instance, i do not have a xmas tree at home, neither do i bullshit the kids with delusions of santa. i am not intellectually dishonest. i am just hardcore skeptic. one with logic, reason and integrity.

    ben

you think you got more skills than me? more scientific and rational? give me a q&a. the answers will establish my creds as a rationalist, the questions will establish you as a crackpot.

how could this be? lets find out, shall we?

you actually claim this with utmost certainty? explain in a concise and logical manner the reasoning for this inference. walk me thru the deductive steps you've taken in order to reach this conclusion.

if you do not do so in a satisfactory manner, there is a label waiting in the wings to be rolled out and i promise..... wild and riotous encores

you pull that # out with a straight face? we have less than a hundred core members here. ones that are reg contributers. strike 1

the poll is is held to be invalid. you imply a counterpart where a positive question is posed has to exist in order to vindicate the results of this poll. it is not about your popularity. it is how you measure against your fellow mods. any reasonable person would have to ask.....what is skin doing that is different? strike 2

    why do i do this?
    because i can
    and i am bored

    now,

both skin and q are what is know as debunkers. they throw irrational hissy fits about the crackpots but refuse to leave for greener pastures. i mean, sci was a ufology forum, for chrissakes. is that particularly logical? i mean to continue subjecting oneself to crackpottery? ben even professed a desire to go chasing woo woos offsite!

tell me sci, how this is not pathological behavior?

    pardon
shall we have a sing along to engender a communal and fraternal ethos in sci?
    hmm children? yeahhhhhhhhh, lets.

    Notes Around

Don't worry 'bout it. Many people do.

    • • •

See, now you're getting the hang of it.

Has anyone complained about that post? Not that I think anyone should. Rather, isn't it nice when people's senses of humor include a dimension called context?

    Bought another copy of Zoso;
Seeds were bustin' up the spine.
I think I wet my pants doin' whippits.
Not too many buds, just fine.
Sit me in the lap of the god's babe,
Cover me with skin and hair,
Ride a number one on the home train:
Screw you if you think I care!
    Smoke!

I think it gratifies him that anyone pretends to care. Then again, the idea that you don't ignore the broader circumstances and kneel down weeping and begging forgiveness is generally taken as a sign of your rudeness.

Part of this, of course, is the perverse sense of expectation that suggests we should treat every post as if it exists not so much in a vacuum, but rather a complex and specific theoretical state which presumes good faith and accurate representation in complaints when simple observation so strongly suggests otherwise.

Remember how many of these issues are undertaken in media res, and how little anyone cares about that. Certain complaints about certain moderators simply run into credibility problems at the outset. Recognition of that fact, also, is generally taken as a sign of rudeness.

Some people seek validation through complaint. I'm not so much disgusted by such obsession as I am saddened. Some folks invest too much energy in their Sciforums ego. It's rather hard to understand sometimes, since those investments are often high-value and low-effort, which makes for a very risky venture, indeed. Then again, self-imposed doom does allow for a cyclical renewal of complaint, thus perpetuating a desperate identity politic.

The lesson, of course, suggests nothing you don't already know, so I'll leave it be, satisfied with the opportunity to make the point.

    You're doing just fine.

Well, you've gotta expect that it's going to happen from time to time.

    For instance:

You know, in years past, I used to set the standard for vice. People would line up and take their shots, and I simply didn't back up. I've always been amused at the number of people who want to flex their attitude problems turn around and cry foul because I won't say, "Thank you, sir; may I have another?" The thing is that in recent months I've even given open advice to the membership about how to be belligerent and insulting; how much more of an example can I set? Yet people who aim to exceed those boundaries are upset because they crossed a line somewhere?

And that's pretty much the whole point. I'm happy to play nice with people. It's just that some simply don't want to. And yes, it amuses me somewhat to read complaining posts; if people want to contest my behavior or actions as a member or a mod, that's one thing, but it's apparently never enough to simply complain about what I do or say. For some strange reason, the vast majority of the complaints are so exaggerated that they're not worth taking seriously. And I would take more of the complaints seriously, if they were honest.

Funny story ... well, okay, you had to be there. Once upon a time, at the Comet Tavern—a local dive steeped in lore—a friend of mine wandered into the Men's to take a piss, and as he stands in front of the urinal draining himself, he realizes that he is staring at himself. Someone, and to my knowledge, the culprit has never been discovered, put up a flyer that had this really sketchy picture of him—taken at some party once upon a time—and the handwritten message, "This man stole my cat!" It was the funniest f@cking thing, for the obvious reason. To this day, we don't even know what it means.

For a while, he wondered who did it. He wanted to know who he pissed off, and how. You know, did "cat" refer to a woman? Or was it really about a four-legged piece of living furniture? He finally let it go one day when he realized that he was only presuming that the flyer was posted in anger. Someone could have simply had a twisted sense of humor.

Recently, a member who resented my action as a moderator said it must have been because he was making too much sense. Whatever. I recognize that this sort of shite makes people feel better, but really, you don't go directly wishing harm on your neighbors around here. So it is and will be hard to take that member's complaints about me seriously. And I don't feel I'm being unduly rude about it. Truth is that no matter what I do, I'm going to piss someone off.

Maybe you missed the recent topic in which the usual suspects whined and cried for a while, but nobody could ever make a coherent complaint. It is, indeed, rather difficult to take such gripe sessions seriously. So there's not much reason that I worry about it.

I'm sure you could list however many "victims" you want, and I could respond by listing my complaint about each particular member. Most of them know who they are, and I'm already accustomed to a general pretense that they are clueless to why I address them or their ideas as I do. It's easy enough to get me to meet people halfway. It's just that not everyone is willing to make the effort. And that's fine with me. It's their choice to make it anyone else's problem.

    Alliterative psychospiritual stains

Er ... um ... okay. But which prior practically prehistoric should I ... oh, hell, there goes my alliteration.

Foul imposters, as I understand it. The Sciforums originals are, for the most part, amused insofar as it's not their obligation to worry about the diverse states of other people's psyches.

You've actually witnessed something pornographic, though: prepubescent psychospiritual circle-jerking. I'm not sure what Baby Cheevers says, but you might have to cleanse your eyes with burning, pointy sticks.

The obvious answer: he's asking and demanding that everyone that likes him votes for him.

    I want the highest score.
