I know there is one life so I think sleeping is a waste of time☺
You have to sleep I know but what a waste...when on your death bed just think of all thecyears you slept...a third of it wasted.

Instead of looking for ways to prolong life, maybe we should be looking for ways to reduce the need for sleep.

i think your question is a little more complex when reading your example.
your co-worker seems to be in an adverserial mode with their thoughts.
this suggests they have not sought profesional help.
    modern psychology cognitive behavioural therapy
    medications/drugs
'some' forms of religious mental training
    mindfulness training(new age)
    herbal medicines and variant therapists

there is a plathora of options
the old worldy tough men dont talk about their feelings kinda thing is not condusive to a long healthy life.

females are slightly different but generically the same

ive met many people who cant sleep in a house by themselves.
also people who cant sleep without silence
some who cant sleep if they can hear people talking but can if its music,
some who cant if its music but can if its talking
    etc etc

the number of men and women who cant sleep in a house by themselves might surprise you.

What I suspect they mean is that they are not accustomed to these things, not that they really cannot sleep under these conditions at all. Most of us have had experiences of finding it hard to sleep in strange environments and of having to train ourselves to sleep in them. Sometimes it takes more than a week.
