What are some metaphors for communication?

    For example:

Communication in like the exchange of chemicals. Each person offers, gives or throws chemicals at the other and also uses them for oneself. The chemicals can be pleasant, harmless, neutral or less or more dangerous. If dangerous chemicals are thrown, then unless one somehow neutralizes them or otherwise makes them harmless, one suffers.

Do list as many metaphors for communication as you can think of.
    Thanks!

Communication is like an art class.

Words are the paint which we use to draw on the canvas of the mind of others, the picture of the experience we wish to convey.
