It's not that Emails were getting to the users I don't think, the problem would be that Robots scripted to abuse the forums email script would have been eating up the bandwidth and getting numerous complaints from server administrators who would claim the spam was coming from this domain. Admittedly there should be a method to turn off the anchors/script for both the PM and Email scripts.
Currently if you need to find someones profile you could initiate a Forum search for their username, and then find an instance where they've posted to get there profile up. There is another method but I'm not going to explain it here as if everybody started using it, this place would be running at a crawl.

how would you use this method to find posts by southstar? the 's' that they use is not on the keyboard. the members list needs to be brought back for the sole purpose of finding posts.
I don't know about PC but on Mac you can access special characters using the alt key- e.g. alt+6 gives me §.
In Windows you can use the Character map (Run "charmap", or choose Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Character Map.) There are also Alt-key shortcuts. § is Alt+0167 (must use the numeric keypad for the digits).
