    Now that's funny!

In the very short time I've been here, it's become obvious that many children spend quite a lot of time here that would be more appropriately applied by spending an equal amount of time studying the school work that they have equally obviously ignored.

Seldom have I seen such a collection of youngsters so incapable of expressing themselves in written words with anything even approaching accuracy or clarity.

I see now that it's best to just ignore the lazy students in the same manner that the better jobs and pay will ignore them after they finally leave the schools where they are currently wasting their time and our tax money.

I think the most serious problem with the school system is that the "leave no kid behind" method has shown now to be the wrong way to resolve the problem. The illiterate little shits should be failed at the 1st grade level so many are stuck at and thrown the hell out of the school after their second pointless year in the same grade. It wouldn't affect their rate of pay later, and it would free teachers to instruct the children who are there to learn.

What a bunch! Now watch while some of the most obvious ones with the highest post count show that what I've said is right on target.

    Pretty funny!

No they aren't. They are just Senators, not even members of the committees involved, with no role at all in the House.

Obama might have a small amount of expertise to bring, but nothing unique; McCain none personally - although he could loan his campaign manager and some of his staff, if the negotiating committees need access to the principals involved in creating the disaster.

Their status as candidates for President is a reason for them to stay out of the picture, not barge in. How in hell can something like this be negotiated with the campaign circus in the room ?

Maybe McCain will use the telegraph machine to send his debate answers in by morse code. He probably thinks that's high tech.

So, NGM. This is what, the 100th time you've gone down this road. Whenever your argument begins to crumble, it's always 'dumb kids' or 'dumb youngsters'.

    Get a life, gramps.

Wow. Good. I cancelled a tennis tournament to watch Obama make an ass of himself on TV (not that this isn't the first time).

Like BJ Clinton said - this was originally done in good faith. If anything, McCain wanted to have more debates --- townhall debates, not the 2-minute soundbite debate we'll see tonight --- and Obama refused every time McCain asked for that.

And now, I think it's more important to deal with the most serious economic problem the US has faced since 1929, so a little debate can be postponed, IMO.

Republican John McCain agreed to attend the first presidential debate Friday night even though Congress doesn't have a bailout deal, reversing an earlier decision to delay the event until Washington had taken action to address the crisis.

With less than 10 hours until the debate was scheduled to start, the McCain campaign announced that the Arizona senator would travel to the University of Mississippi. The campaign said that afterward McCain would return to Washington to continue working on the financial crisis.

It worked. He's got a built in excuse for his performance.

I'm presuming he brought his campaign staff back with him ? The PR guys he brought to Washington to help handle crisis, I mean.

These debates are more important aspects of handling the US economic crisis than anything else McCain could do.

Pretty funny. You do know about the advance preparations that are done by city, county, state and federal police types, media, and the rest of the circus that follows a Presidential Candidate around and precedes them to every place they stop? Not to mention the US Marshall service and the Secret Service that are glued to each of them.

It's physically impossible for one of them to "sneak" anywhere and it takes lots of hours to provide security for them everywhere they go. None of the real side of this is ever seen on camera.

As for him needing any excuses, to equate either of the Candidates with being as simple as the guy down at the store you go to would be a serious mistake in estimating their knowledge and abilities. You simply don't reach their level by being stupid. Despite the common expressions of people who think otherwise, it's never happened and never will.

I look forward to tonight's debate. It should be very interesting. Of course, nothing will be said by either Candidate that isn't canned, but it will put them on the record in regards to their responses. Every conceivable question and answer is prepped by all parties involved. Nothing will be spontaneous no matter how much it might look so.

    That's how it works.

    Ummmm why?

The debates can always be rescheduled. There are over 6 weeks to the election. But the worst financial disaster in the last 80 years can't. If you haven't noticed, Washington Mutual has gone under today. Had the bailout been finished a day earlier it would still be around... and any day passing with out the bailout will bring more troubled banks to the brink of insolvency and going under.

McCain (and yes, Obama) need to concentrate on THAT. As much as I'd hate to see Obama get his socialist fingers on that bill, he needs to be part of that too so that the the result is of a bipartisan effort.

And by the way, it would be smart politics too. Once it passes Obama can claim partial credit for having worked on the bill to "save America".

The party leaders don't necessarily need these two senators to be there in person, the election of our new leader for the next 4-8 years is far more important.
