Ah, good. We can agree on something on this issue. My guess is they wanted to fire him - for good reasons or bad ones, who knows - and figured they had a chance here to catch him on paper, rather than having to get into the hazy interpretive world of performance or staff relations analysis.
Haven't heard these done in Latvia. In Latvia an employer before hiring can ask the person to take a medical test, and the doctor can only give an answer "Person suited for the particular work" or "Person not suited for the particular work", no more details. If the person is suited for the work, the cost of the exam is covered by the employer, so these tests are not popular, because they cost a lot. We are restricted from using alcohol or drugs during work or arriving at work in such a condition, what happens at home is private data.
