London riots: Violence erupts for third day

    Don't think there is a thread on this yet.

    What happened initially was a black man was shot dead by police, the police stated that there was an exchange of fire. At the time the guys family did not believe the story being told by the police, they held a peaceful march to a police station, the asked for answers but were given none. I think it was at this march that a 16 yr old girl approached a police line asking for answers and she was just beaten down. This caused outrage and there was trouble, bricks and stuff being thrown all over. On the first night the trouble was limited to Tottenham.

    The last few nights it has spread to other parts of London (mainly the poor parts), it has popped out of nowhere, cars are being burnt and shops set ablaze. There has been a lot of looting, luckily no one has been killed. Important to note none of this now has anything to do with the police shooting.

    Regarding the shooting, yesterday there were rumours that the person killed did not fire at the police, and that he was actually killed execution style.

    As I type, this rioting has spread to various parts of London, there has been rioting and looting in Birmingham too, and supposedly in Leeds too, there are rumours of planned riots some other major cities tomorrow.

    It is really crazy how things have got out of hand. Police are stretched and from what I have seen they can't deal with the trouble-makers. People's property, businesses etc. are not being protected.

    It has hit mainly deprived Black areas of London, but there have been Whites and some Asians rioting too. Boys, girls, some aged 14.

    There's a theory that there may be some underlying political reasons. There isn't though. Just a bunch of assholes getting themselves some plasma TV action.

    How do you know this?

    And since when is that exclusive of political motivations? If masses of people care less about public order and allegiance to the prevailing authority than they do about the chance to grab up some free TVs, that's a political issue. That's the exact fundamental issue that states were invented to address, in the first place.

    Unless you're going to argue that the rioters are simply subhuman Others?

    Right now there is rioting in different parts of London, also in Birmingham, which is in the West Midlands, there is trouble in Liverpool (North West) too as well as Bristol (South West).

    It is just getting worse and the police can't seem to handle it. Massive fires being started and looting too.

    Luckily though there hasn't been much violence, no one has been killed.

    There are plans for major riots in alot of other cities tomorrow and tbh, I can't see how the police can deal with it. Police from other counties have been drafted in to London to deal with the trouble, forces are already stretched thin. There are rumours of the army being called in.
