You mean, Bombing by Air? Or what?

And don't call it a war!

It's Unilateral Kinetic Humanitarian Police Action.
    S'il vous plait.

It might have escaped your notice, but there's a slight problem in Libya just now. The air forces of half a dozen countries ahve been blowing up all manner of military hardware. Where have you been? Mars?

So now America is helping the terrorists that were killing Americas military personnel while they were in Iraq and no one seems to give a damn about this reversal? I, for one, think that America as well as its allies aren't going to fair to well when the next batch of thugs gets into power in Libya. They seem to be worse than Qaddafi is in what they have done by fighting against the troops in the Iraq war.

So IF they remove Qaddafi and these thugs do get into power what do you think will be the result, a better Libya and peace with Israel or just more problems with terrorists having another country to work out of with impunity?

Why wouldn't they acknowledge the help that the US has given them in their liberating struggle? Isn't winning hearts and minds part of the struggle?

We are not bombing tanks on the ground, according to recent reports on CNN, although I think we should.

On Libyan state television, a bulletin attributed to a "military source" said that military and civilian locations were bombed in Tripoli "by the crusader colonial aggression."

It was not immediately clear where the explosions actually took place.

To the east, Libyan forces pounded parts of the city of Misrata on Tuesday, with tanks firing mortar shells and troops using heavy artillery in an effort to retake control of the city, a witness told CNN.

Coalition planes circled overhead but did not strike the tanks, he said.

Ok, so Gaddafi will most likely completely lose power in the next few weeks. Who will be in charge after that? The US? France? The coalition? A new Libyan Government?

IMO, the coaltion is shooting for a new Libyan Government, which can hopefully be set up in the mold of pre-revolution Egypt/Libya. Hopefully with someone they can control. They most certainly do not want another "Iran". Whether this is possible or not is anyone's guess...

It won't be a fundamentalist regime. They are fighting for freedom, not another autocracy. It's most likely to be moderate. None of the western powers want another infant democracy to look after, they've got enough on thier plate as it is already. The rebels have formed an alliance of tribal leaders as far as I can make out. They will form a government of national unity. Most likely they will want a written constitution I should think. But that's all still a long way off. They have to win the war first. If Gaddafi wins, there'll be a bloodbath. The rebels have no choise but to fight, they've crossed the Rubicon.

    Hah! Don't fuckin kid yourself.

There'll be bombing, and Libyan tanks will get blown up, and a rag-tag band of freedom fighters will destroy Quaddaffi's Death Star and win the whole war - or more likely not, since according to Newsweek they haven't got the faintest fucking idea what they're doing, and then ground-troop creep will start because those freedom fighters are useless,, and it will become known that they're useless (thanks Newsweek) and then a few troops will turn into a division or two, but with more Brits and French (and zip from the UAE, because the UAE are pussies from the get-go), and then a new regime will be installed that's nominally friendly to the US - but not too friendly because Obama will at least want the appearance of independence, and then the Brotherhood will tell people that they got blowed up because of the Americans, and a 'popular' (35%) groundswell will support Independence New, which tastes like Independence 1.0 except with religious parties and blaming the Americans for being too involved and not being involved enough and then things will really start to go downhill.

The people who are thankful to the Yanks for wasting Libyan tanks will just quietly shrug and get on with their lives, a little disappointed that the fanatics are pushing all the agendas, but basically just getting on with their lives and letting the maniacs run the show. Because that's what they do.

That's Prediction 1.0. Eat it. (Not you specifically, SG. Just everybody generally.)
