Make it like a serial killer burner made it.

Let say that the character in your novel, Mr. X, works in Citibank New York. First, burn the house (or make an attempt to burn the house) of a random employee of the Citibank NY. The next week, make an attempt to burn the house of another employee of the same bank. In the 3rd week, burn the house of Mr. X., the main character in your novel. In the 4th week, make an attempt to burn the house of another employee of the same bank. Then stop all the burning. Police got the message: somebody extremely hates Citibank NY and has been stalking some of their employees and burn their house! Perhaps a very disappointed customer.

Another example, let say Mr. X is an imigran from China (just an example). First, make an attempt to burn a Chinese house. The next week burn another Chinese house. Then, burn Mr. X house. Then, burn the fourth random Chinese house. Then stop. All Chinese should live in the same city so that police conclude that some racist dude extremely hates Chinese.

Less likely people will suspect Mr. X burns his own house for getting insurance

Accidental discharge from a top-secret orbiting battle station.
Overshoot from an Air Force exercise with a napalm bomb.
Mutant mice with a box of matches and a grudge.

    How'm I doing so far?

Insurance doesn't pay for negligence or purposeful accident. Do you read the OP...?

    Not for this book.
I do, however, plan on using one for my novel.
    Why do you ask?

The novel is written in first person, so the pen name will be the character's name.

This book will be my real name.

What does that say about me?

No that was three separate options, not a concatenation of events.
