Is Yilmaz right? ************************* Extract ************************** http://members.tripod.com/jdbrown371/newtheory.html General Relativity, it seems, can only account for 43 seconds of arc per century in the advance of Mercury's perahelion. It does not account for the 532 second of arc per century that was accounted for in the first place by Newtonian theory. This subtlety was ignored for over 80 years and continues to be largely ignored. The New Theory predicts that the perahelion advance of Mercury should be 532 + 43 seconds of arc per century which agrees with experiment. There are of course also the Newtonian precessions of eight other planets which Yilmaz' theory describes correctly whereas Einstein's theory cannot. Table 2. Note Tabled responses did not cut & paste. I have restructured it here. The GR correction to the Mercury perihelion problem was not a replacement, but simply a correction to account for the difference between observed and Newtonian prediction. In other words, Newton's gravity was off by 43 seconds and GR makes up the difference.
