Not that I can speak for gonj but...

This isn't an answer; it's a non sequitor
The idea that we are materially derived says nothing about whether or not what we perceive and experience can be described as 'real'.

As I said, wherever you go.....there it is. You want to live in a dream then that's how it is. If you create your own then your standing in it.

There is only one reality for you. What would you like.....several? None? What good is more than one reality if you can't leave this one?

actually its not about logic but about reason and the ability to reason

that we are materially derived is not an " idea " it is fact

hence why earlier I mentioned going without water and air for a year , ignore this fact at your own risk

material is what we are basically made of and what allows us to become and evolve

    hence a fundamental reality

    the Universe

Its as real as real gets.

Because I've had dreams and can tell the difference.

    Actually, it is about logic.
While reason may cover more scope than logic, there can be no reason without logic.
Regardless, my point stands: an assertion of any sort concerning the nature of what is 'real' cannot follow from an assertion of our experience.

Indeed; an inductively substantiated empirical one, which, again, says nothing about our perception of our experiences.

    I would have to disagree.

Logic is a formal system and was invented. Reason predates logic, even if we make habitual use of logic with reason today.

    True.
    However:

    Historically, of course, you're correct.
Logic however, is nothing more than the formalization of reasoned thinking.
Just as before its formalization, man made use of the Scientific Method.

Ultimately, I suppose you could say we're just quibbling with semantics.

I would say the formalization of an aspect of reasoned thinking.

Not entirely. I see logic as a tool for handling specific questions. But like any tool, if misapplied complete wackiness ensues.

Reason I see as an ideal for arriving at the clearest and most applicable understanding of reality currently possible using a collection of tools and principles for thinking, which we are still evolving.

Some examples of these would be tools such as logic and principles such as parsimony and the primacy of evidence over authority or fancy.

If it's misapplied, it's not logic.

    You don't question your perceptions?

You have never looked through the looking glass.

    Logic is easily misapplied.

No. My perceptions are questioned and the data verified within the parameters of their normal operation.

I have to agree with everything you say here.

    As well as this.
Logic, like any system, is not infallible.
When misapplied, or given erroneous input (premisses), errors ensue.

It's an illusion in that all of it resides in your mind and is interpreted by your perceptions. Your purpose in life is to survive and procreate, so that the illusion continues for another generation.

Alas, both of these positions imply some sort of teleology.
I fail to see how this is relevant.

For those of you saying that you 'know your not dreaming cause you know what dreaming is'. Well if this world is just a dream then you would not know, your unconscience dream would be different than your dream of the world. So that theory makes no sense.
2nd.. Why do half of you people come to the philosphy threads and try to make others sound 'stupid' or crazy. :\
I feel this question is the same as any 'god theory'. Seeing as nothing will be proven, at least not for a long time.

    A good meta-philosophy observation.
All too often people forget that it's not all about opposition for its own sake.
Without an open mind, contrariness rules the day.

    Anyways... back to the topic...
