How does this area (from latitudes 26N to 24 N) compare to the seal level official tropics as far as delicate tropical vegetation, sunlight intensity and overall "tropicality." ( i.e. that light feeling of the air etc.)

Some say it falls short, other say it is the same or SUPER close.

They are just about identical. Their temps are about the same year round but during winter the Keys do not get as cold as Miami does but all else is about the same.

The term tropical is defined by the geometry of the Earth. The same is true for the arctic & antarctic circles.

In the tropic region, the sun can appear directly over head at some time during the solar year.

In the arctic & antarctic regions there can be days with no sun light.
