You don't think there is money in a red light district or you don't think a prostitute would frequent a soup kitchen?
    And you know from what?
Imagining how glamorous it is to be a porn star?

I don't know is there? What do you know of the difference between call girls and the value/bulk prostitute? I'm amazed at the experience of those who profess moral indignation. Please inform us of the difference.

You think all societies have the same kind of red light districts or do you think all prostitution takes place in soup kitchens?

The onus of proof is in the one stating the terms. What do you know of being a porn star? Did Jenna Jameson school you or something?

    LG: You're pathetic

    And you're dickless.

Look, streetwalkers will do it for cheap, Lucy...LG was probably feeding the ladies themselves, and listening to them...Homeless, drug-addicted women who sell sex for drug money...

since I used to work in an area where there was a lot of truckers parked overnight, well I saw these women walking occasionally-they have this wiggly walk they do...I understand their going rate is 10$ for oral sex, from what the truckers said.

I don't think selling one's body for money is immoral, just a really dangerous, unpleasant way of going about making money.
I think it ought to be legal, because I believe in the "harm-reduction" model of dealing with social ills.
    Not that I like it.
I consider it self destructive behavior on the part of the prostitute.
But I don't believe in legislating personal self-destructive behavior.

@ Saint...I think it's immoral in that you're not honoring the commitment to your wife, and possibly exposing her to disease.
That's not okay. You're breaking a profound trust.
Unless you have your wife's explicit permission to have sex with prostitutes.

If you were single, I might be okay with it...
Although-did you make sure she was doing this of her own free will? or was she an enslaved person?
If she was enslaved, you've raped her, and that is awful.

And are they the definitive representation of prostitution? I think not. Disease is an issue in sexually active populations in general not cornered by a trade.

If the 2 consenting parties are willing then its not immoral. If a prostitute is forced to sleep with any client by a pimp or similar or if the client is already in a relationship then that is.

    Simple.

If you are just sleeping . You are Just sleeping right?
Dude don't lose any sleep over it , but if you get caught by the cops it won't look good for you . Take matters into your own hands and you won't have to worry about cops busting you . Nothing like the love of a woman though

you think a woman takes to prostitution by choice, attracted by the working conditions?

What do you know of being a prostitute? (aside from your liberal imagination about what its all about)?

Still waiting for you to inform us at what level and degree a woman becomes attracted to the working conditions of a prostitute

Do you have sociological data as to what an average prostitute looks like?

I understand streetwalkers are the ones that are blatant, the better ones are not on the street, streetwalkers have the worst working conditions and the worst pay.

And the street prostitutes do a volume business because of the pittance they get paid, increasing risk.
High-priced call girls who can command $1 k per hour for a night with one man?
    Well, not even comparable.

But they're not visible, you see.

How is he supposed to know this?

You cannot ask that question precisely because the the 'average' looks different from society to society, nation to nation, culture to culture. The point is that streetwalkers are the ones 'you can see', the ones you have access to. But I remember in Phnom Penh when so called good-doers were attempting to stop the trade that they formed their own advocacy group and became political and strumped themselves down the street.

The Netherlands have legalized prostitution. Are we moving them into the equation?

Do you know for sure that she doesn't? Or do you know that some do and some do not?

Like I said, those who set the terms own the onus. It is up to you to show evidence of your own opinion.

Theres's a difference between some seedy joint where the hookers are probably drug addicts and very cheap, and hiring a night with some high-class woman who arranges business herself.

I would have thought the less you pay the more immoral it is.

No legalizing is wrong and harsh punishments are also wrong. Token and up to nominal penalties are better. You will never stop the illegal aspect of prostitution because the criminal element will always be there. If people didnt support it financially it would disappear though.

Usually not. In places where it's legal, though, most prostitutes choose their profession by choice.

Some women, like some men, like having sex. The two options for turning this into a profession are prostitution and porn. Since making porn is legal many places in the US, porn actors tend to be less exploited than prostitutes. (Can't hold the "I'll call the cops" over their heads.)

As with anything else, it can become "just a job" after a while.

Oh please! How do you judge this? You have facebook sex and youporn. How much of that trade is prostitution and how much of it is just 'fun'? We don't know. Therefore the only 'prostitutes' we know of are those whom are either caught by the law or profess themselves to be such. You don't know who is selling sex in a system that renders it illegal which means the only stats available are those that are criminal. What do we say of college students who sell themselves at high prices? Nothing.

I know that, i mean how is he supposed to know if they are being forced? Sure many are physically forced but if not physically the lower end of the spectrum is almost certainly doing it for other reasons and not because they enjoy the work. The thought of laying in a bed not knowing what is coming through the door next, to do god knows what, must be pretty damn bad.
