How come that some fairly intelligent people intersperse their speech with profanities?

How does profanity help to make a point?
If one has a point, one has a point.
To add profanity to a good point seems like a perverted baroque ornament.
K it adds um, spice?
It simply makes the speaker look lacking civility and compassion.
'Stop spreading this Christian agenda, damn it!'
See, you do it too. I don't think you're lacking civility, or compassion and I stick to my previous reasons.
I wouldn't know why intelligent people use profanity, but I believe it is a part of every language and it must have a function other than indicating low intelligence.
If complex language ability is a defining trait of being human, then profanity might be our solution to stop biting or scratching each other every time we want to express an intense emotion.
It might be used for signifying informality, or simply for releasing the pressure.
Punctuation, color, or emphasis. Look at Signal's quote, removing the profanity changes the intensity of the sentence, and some of the meaning as well. It can be overused, just as having five exclamation points can be too much and make the writer look obsessive or immature.
It was said that God damned a lot of people, and so I guess people, being what they are, imitated “God’, the vengeful version. So, cursing and damning caught on, and so we have it that even God’s last name [Dammit], ha-ha, was often taken in vain.
Some would-be-but-not-quite swearers might also exclaim “Jesus H. Christ” when annoyed, or “Jesus, Mary, Joseph”, as my aunt used to say, so as to stay one step away from real swearing.
Worse words then came about as analogies to a person being some unsavory part of the body as a way to get in a great insult and also appear to have raised up one’s points.
For me, a new four letter word is w-o-r-k.
Shitake [a mushroom].
Profanity can be used for many reasons. To display a strong emotion in a piece of writing(sometimes needed because written word is much less expressive than spoken word is), for shock value, to spite others who sobbily think that profanity has no uses. There are any number of uses for profanity, and none of them reflect on the intelligence of the one using them.
That's your opinion, and while you're entitled to that opinion it doesn't necessarily make it true.
What does someone who uses profanities (Anyone using profanities, consider yourself requested to reply here!) believe about the relationship they have with the person(s) they are talking to?
Isn't using profanities a sign that their speaker is looking down on their audience?
Surely the use of profanities while at a job interview would reflect on the low intelligence of the one using them.
Would you like to add a "you worthelss little fuck" to this?
You need to get your hands dirty Single . Blood and guts . You got the guts you just don't have any blood on your hands yet . When you discover that you do and you live in denial of it you will say to your self Oh fuck what Have I done . I have touched that dirty thing with my mouth wide open. Willfully
It is not your fault so don't go thinking that is a slam . Your virtue is like a badge of honor . Baby that is were honor lives . Study and understand Gus cause she knows exactly were honor lives . I know it is hard for you to look at the ugly thing with it all looking like a chicken neck but baby that is reality
No . I am not like that . I want to say you would be a good fuck . Worthy of fucking cause well I like you
High Five . Long time . You been up to something haven't you . Good it is so good to see you . Welcome back . Your hard to catch up to.
civility maybe unless you really understand the underlying message disguised in berating .
Compassion now that is different . Why did Joe Stack run his plane into the I.R.S. building ? When you understand that and the full implications you will begin to realize what civility and compassion means . Joe jumped ship from the pressure of it all . "The ridiculousness" is a cuz word for you . Much worse than say cock
