    Wet Sex.

Now that I have your attention*, I'd like this thread to be about new music you have 'discovered,' and wish to share with other people. By discovered, I mean music that you don't hear played on the radio, save by trendy broadcasters in Portland or college rock stations. If one of you fags says Radiohead, I'm gonna poop my pants.

Also, I don't want this to be music snobbery. We can all do music snobbery. I can be a snob, I also make things up, call names, and don't actually know anything about music. In otherwords, I can be far more obnoxious about my opinions. So please burn in hell.

I'd like this to go something like "Hey guys, I got introduced to this awesome band, Ambulace Ltd.. They're sort of poppy, but have really beautiful songs and solid instrumentals. Kind of remind of the Beatles. They mean a lot to me, and you should listen to Primitive (The Way I Treat You). It's indie, but seeing as how everyone wet themselves over Interpol, this should blow you away."

And then you'd go download the song (or some of the artist) or however you acquire music, and say something like "it was really crummy, and I won't tell you how bad your taste in music is, as this isn't the thread for it, but if you like shit like that, you should also listen to *blank*"

I promise to try out your music if you promise to try out mine.
    Deal?

*Cause we all know how obsessed you are with sex (or are reading this to see who is obsessed with sex. Sure, right.) I wanted you to read this. Sue me.

Now that I know it isn't about sex I am not going to read it. Women need to know that men want their women to have incredible sex with them, and that they love them.

    I like this thread already.

Uh. I already made a thread about this, but I have to go with Porcupine Tree. They're pretty similar to Pink Floyd, but their songs tend to be more on the long side, like Tool (usually 5-12 minutes long). But the songs are so well composed, you don't even notice. You just get so completely sucked in and absorbed.

Download Deadwing, or Trains, or Nine Cats, or Chloroform, or whatever you find when you query "Porcupine Tree". It's all good.

I recall that thread. I have their "Shallow," which I didn't really care for. However, I did go on iTunes and listened to more of their stuff, and decided they weren't as the bad as the names I was about to call you.

As per the rules of this thread, I'm off to, uh, 'listen' to more of their stuff. Heh.

On a completely unrelated note, I hate musical pirates. They're total thiefs and a disgrace to pirates everywhere. Most don't even own a cutlass. The best they can do is pirate drunk.

  9. theres a great band called codeseven that i love. actually they broke up about a month ago but they have an excellent album called dancing echoes/dead sounds. its like a little radiohead, a little of the cure, and maybe a little of my bloody valentine (but not much). at one point my band toured the east coast of the US with them and they were great guys and i couldnt stop listening to their record for abpout 3 months. maybe you'll like it maybe you wont, but its relaxing and atmospheric and excellent.
you could check some of it out at www.myspace.com/codeseven i would recommend the song "nasty little revolution" on there.

this is like my dream thread, since i love a million bands and want everyone to listen to them. im sure i'll post and post and post on this until you all want to fucking shoot me.

My favourite local band (and it helps that I am friends with all of the members, and they are very cool people): Open, Parachute!. Xerxes, you are from Calgary, yes? They are heading out there this May if you like what you hear.

Also, a little bit of a different band from the aforementioned, but technically awesome: A Textbook Tragedy. These guys are all young kids from Langley, BC, and can play like crazy. Plus, Nick is one of the best drummers I have ever had the pleasure of watching. They are a bit on the intense side though, so be warned.

A little bit more well known in that they are signed to a semi-major label: The Fall of Troy.

  12. i was in a band on that label. the fall of troy is good, but i think they get more hype than they deserve, because the one kids father is in the allman brothers.

    What band were you in?

And I think the Fall of Troy are excellent musicians (well, the guitar player anyway), and his arranging skills are both unique and quite exceptional.

Just checked these guys out. Typically I'm not one for music from south of the border, but I liked them. I must acquire more of them, *winkwink*

Idle Mind, all your music I was like bleh. Never really cared for boy rock like that. Bands of pretty people singing about feelings and shit. Just not my thing. Fall of Troy I can listen to, though they scream a little too much for my taste. What sort of music is this considered? Like, I need to give it a label. What do I label it?

Speaking of Canadian bands, Wolf Parade is good. Indie as fuck, though. They sound similar to Interpol but the music does more. Not so monotonous, not so produced.

Another band I was really into for a little while was Autolux, a noise-pop band from L.A. Lots of quirky percussive sounds.

Drive-by Truckers, a southern rock band that sings about southern stuff. It's rock, but with a twang. They sing about Ford plants shutting down and Reagan and killing bankers that want to take Daddy's farm. Check out the songs Sink Hole, Hell No I Ain't Happy, Decoration Day, Puttin' People on the Moon, and Daddy's Cup.

And hey, could you also recommend songs by the artist, as well?
