Just wondering if we could put a CAPTCHA test on new users, say for the first 50-100 posts or in Paul W. Dixon case always?

CAPTCHA's are only any good if you are dealing with a raw bot. For the most part though programmers like to tweak their bots to beat the system, for some reason they think this automatically means their bots are "Smart", in reality they just become weak AI where a human counterpart has already done all the work.

I think there is currently a CAPTCHA system running although it is an earlier version.
