I'm really not a good person to ask that. I hate correcting spelling and grammar

    But /sigh

You'd probably be better off with someone more patient and understanding

You misunderstand, I know I am intelligent and fluent in English. I am just too much of a perfectionist to be a good English teacher. Plus I am low on patience so I might beat you up [verbally] if you annoy me.

Thats not Dari thats Urdu, after all the Delhi Sultanates were all Afghans so our Urdu is heavily peppered with Dari and Persian.

And no I am not angry - why would I be?

The words of the Dari and Urdu mixed together some words in urdu and in Dari have the same mean.

    Cause you said in:

SAM, How many languages do you speak? I must say, that I have always been very impressed with your English! Sometimes I feel like you speak it better than I do, and I am American!

Prince: Practice makes perfect. I admire your willingness to improve on your English and accept people's corrections. Just keep coming here and engaging in conversations and stay open minded about getting better at it. It will come!

My principal in school was such a lover of the language that she could spend a 30 minute class dissecting a sentence into its components and explaining each one in detail.

I owe my fluency and my "ear" for the language to them.

Neither of my parents spoke English to us at home, so it was all up to them

You speak well enough to communicate. English is not my "first" language but being educated in it has made me more fluent in it than in my own language of Urdu in which perhaps I am not as well educated as I would like to be. I still speak Urdu with my family, but can lapse into English with siblings and friends.

The basic education in English is useful. As is reading. I recommend you plow through newspapers books magazines and attend lectures on varied topics in the English language.

You're in Kabul, so you have the opportunity to attend lectures open to students. My alma mater in the US organised interdepartmental programs in Kenya and Afghanistan and professors were often invited to give talks there. Foreign students also intern in Afghanistan if they are studying the agriculture or technology or even the sociopolitics of the region.

They often use local students as liaisons, you could get acquainted with them and express your desire to improve your language abilities, most students are quite willing to help.

You could use the internet to practice by doing what kira has suggested in this thread

    http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=99318

You could also ask your English teachers if they can help you, you could write short essays/stories or blog in English, write about mundane everyday experiences of your life, which other people can read online and participate in. You could become a citizen journalist and write English news articles.

There are many ways to improve language skills.
