though i understand some of the reasons cited, i think the main reason is misinterpreted. it's not because society shifted from hunter/gatherer or tribalism to agriculture, it's that there is overwhelming evidence that people/nature has not changed and that is the real reason. you find this out when you try to help others and find out that those you are helping often can be selfish/tribal people that would take advantage of you in any way they could, with no conscience at all. it's disheartening but you have to learn to be more discerning.

i don't think most charity done on an individual basis is wise, except for simple good samaritan acts such as stopping at an accident scene to see if one needs help, or if someone has a flat and you have time to help etc; it's best done on a organizational/larger scale where individuals are not exploited/sacrificed and can afford to be generalized to improve society across the board such as homeless shelters and various social programs. if you try to help 'outside' of these organizations without their inherent protections on an individual basis, you can be seen as an easy target to manipulate and use. this is because most people aren't that especially ethical but will throw that out the window when opportunism strikes. they know they can't do this to a team, organization or business but to an individual they can. this is also why when you learn people, it's often on the side of dislike, as the character faults are often harmful or toxic in some way to you. this is also regardless of station/status of those in society. it's an overall generalization.

there are some very, very good people and there are some very innocent or more innocent-like people where if the world was full of them as a majority, it would be a lot saner, safer, healthier and more beautiful place to exist, but again, they are not the majority and that is why 'collectively' people/society is not as likable.

The internet is progressive tool is it not?

    :EDIT:
And, oh yeah, I didn't look at the video but I'm thinking 'bout some of your other posts.

He keeps referring to himself as a creature , rather than Human , interesting .

The evolution of Humanity is the ability to understand what another is going through , beyond the " tribe mentality " .

To become the majority takes time . the more the people collectively care fore others outside the " tribe " the better Humanity will be .

i don't entirely agree with the premise that misanthropy is total for everyone or that tribalism has the same limits for everyone. ironicly, you can dislike society and most people and yet still want to help, even in ways that improve others lives in general. this is because you know deep down that there are people out there you don't know, regardless of race or creed, that you would care for and like if you knew them.

this doesn't mean that everyone who doesn't volunteer or give to charity is a bad person or that they should. everyone has a different calling and most people's sense of effectiveness and wanting to care has a lot to do with their priorities and resources which for most are limited.

i remember one video (i can't find it, was long ago) of this woman who would make a yearly pilgrimage to visit this disabled boy in an orphanage overseas in a third world country. besides his friends at the orphanage and those whose job was to take care of them there, she was the only kind of other family he ever knew or had. something about his case really tore my heart and felt so sorry for him because he had no one and not much of a future because of his disability. it reminds me how many suffer unfairly in this world. he was so innocent and was so elated to see her. he would act up sometimes when she took him out for ice cream etc as a child does. they had a volunteer who tried to bring some happiness into his life by giving him swimming lessons etc. i felt so bad for that boy, i think it's because of how innocent/pure he was and his disadvantages/disability. he will never have a normal life etc because of the unfortunate circumstances of his birth and life. people can only give him some comfort and bit of goodwill while he is here.

it made me think about the problems which lead to such ends and ultimately, it is the universe itself, which i think is really sad that people have to be subjected to such and have to be lost, alone or suffer indignities, whether it's from evil politics/bad government, something happening to your parents or they are abusive or happenstance of being born with a disability ,disease or deformity etc.

then it's not understandable why many with those with the most power and priviledge to make things better don't do so or why unfair greed is so prevalent. i think you become numb after awhile from powerlessness because you see so much suffering everywhere, animal and human alike, it's never-ending and coupled with the fact you don't know who you can trust.

still, if it weren't for people with hearts like these volunteers and activists, the world would be a much sadder place than it already is. they are part of the light in this world.

I have to say, when looking at humanity as a whole, I don't disagree with much of what you say. The world is a "cruel" place whether it's nature or humans. It's all about survival and that's a rather cruel process.

Humans, overall, are pretty good-hearted but all it takes is a small percentage to cause problems for everyone else and it seems that will always be the case. Behavior in groups will usually be worse than most individual behavior.

Education and a good personal economic environment and a tolerate government is about all you can do to improve things.

Most people are shit especially those who post on Internet message boards.

The Internet is full of psychos and criminals and that is why I don't post on Internet communities anymore.

Or you can just die. I mean what's the point of even being alive if life is so cruel to you and you never ever be happy?

Also in all due respect human life on this planet is quite meaningless.

Nope. I can't agree with that. It's not a small percentage. If that were truly the case, the world wouldn't have the level of problems on every level and on every strata of society that it does. maybe half or a bit less are good hearted, the other half or more not so much but acting in public.

Most people are "good" people where ever you go. If you get to know most people and treat them right they will treat you the same way.

If they are under some stress (government, economically, educationally) they may react otherwise. If they are living in a bad environment they will probably react badly themselves (a few will not even then).

If you are talking about someone else caring more about "you" (generic you) than a stranger should then sure, you can get extreme here. It just depends on what you expect. I expect different levels of treatment from different levels of relationships.

The cashier at the grocery store I expect to chat after they recognize me and to be polite. I don't expect them to lend me money, do favors, invite me to dinner.

My friends I do more for and "expect" a bit more but in general I don't look to friends to do things for me. I do expect them to be genuine and fun to be around.

On a trip, I expect a stranger not to harm me or rip me off. Most are honest and nice people.

If dropped off at midnight in the middle of a ghetto I expect very little.

i think a lot of people have felt this way (not just him) about people/society and at various times. it seems to go in cycles or works up to a crescendo such as being okay, then you get a little irritated, then those irritations add up and then you are upset and disgusted overall, then lose your temper or rant etc. then back to equilibrium and it may take time for the irritations of society/people to build again.

no. i have run into good and decent ones too. besides, it's not about good or bad in the criminal justice system sense. what you consider good another may not and what you consider bad, another may think is a good person etc. just as republicans favor other republicans and democrats favor other democrats etc.

I tend to see good in everyone and certainly ready to make excuses for them.
So many folk who are strange have backgrounds that frankly would have had me slashing my wrists.

I do think we radiate our feelings somehow, body language maybe even something more, such that if we dont like someone they know and their response to us adjusts accordingly.
I rarely if ever judge others so I dont deal with them as good or bad and if they are acting upset and even insult me I try to understand why they are having a bad day.
I like everyone and I get that back.
It may be a fools paradise but so far it works well...mind you I dont trust anybody and never place myself in a position where someone can take advantage.
    Happy New Year.

i don't know why people take this thread so seriously. if someone else made this thread around the holiday season where people are suppose to pretend they like eachother once a year, it would be hilarious to me.

i'm not buying that none of you have not had thoughts of killing someone (or a lot) or wishing they never existed. if you haven't, you have not lived long enough.

of course, there are good aspects of humanity but people can annoy you also where it feels like hate at the moment. lol

You do understand every is born with a arsehole yes?

    Disclaimer :- https://www.healthline.com/health/imperforate-anus

And sometimes during womb growth (some put the time after birth - the old nature vs nurture) the personality of the person becomes entangled with the anus and you get a fully fledged walking arsehole with remnants of of humanity attached

I tend, due to personal experience so this is wholly subjective, to see more humanity with arseholes than arseholes with humanity

I'm glad I'm in my world

I don't even know you, but I hope you don't own a gun. I had an acquaintance over at my place recently. I do not want to get too close to him (I also heard a rumor that he is HIV positive,) but he seemed distraught, looked like he needed someone to be around, and I also had beer that could potentially be used to distract an awkward conversation. I didn't know if he was on something at the time as well.

Anyway, the conversation was a one sided outpouring for him while I feigned interest. I heard things like he is thirty three years old and his father was that age when he committed suicide, and he was wondering if he should too. He just broke up with his girlfriend which I also believe was his primary meth dealer. And things like he gets his meth and needles in an adjacent city and how he injects it in weird places. Then he starts to cry.

So, I say something like that I had, Jesus, over the other day and he made it a commandment that there was no crying allowed at my place; so stop crying. Saying that and an offering of beer seemed to allow his emotions to subside. Which also gave me the time to think up some excuse to not be in his company for very long.

As said earlier I don't know you, birch. Maybe you get some cathartic affect from posting the stuff as you do, but if you were anywhere near as messed up as that dude I 'd seriously think about a psychiatrist and start from there.

that's a very sad story but since he didn't mention hating humanity, why would you compare him to this thread? you nor anyone can't help someone that troubled. maybe an organization. all one can do is try 'not' to add to their suffering or issues.

but no, i don't hate people just that are the most troubled because it doesn't mean they are bad people just because they have problems. however, there are many people who are that aren't troubled much at all. so, it has nothing to do with that.
