I scan the white ones the same way you would scan a document. The lit closed all the way. The leaves don't get squashed because they are flat already Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Leaves that are a bit curvy will get flattened out of course, and that's good. The scanned the one with the water on it with the lit all the way up because I didn't want the lit to press the leaf against the glass, the droplets wouldn't have been there if I did put the lit down. Inzomnia, just carefully place the leaf on the glass so as not to disturb the droplets. Leave the lit up and make the room as dark as possible so you won't have any outside light polluting the image. Well.. it doesn't have to be pitch dark because the light from the scanner is so very bright. Open the image in Paintshop Pro or Photoshop. Enhance contrast by 10 (that's what I do in Paintshop anyway) then use the lasso to select the bright particles and fill with black. The surrounding black should be black or very close to. In case it isn't really black up the contrast just a bit before you select the bright spots, unless it affects your leaf too much of course. If it does affect your leaf too much better fill with surrounding near black in stead of absolute black. If you have an LCD monitor move your head to the side of your monitor and look along the monitor to the other side to spot whether or not your image is "contrast-safe" Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Good luck Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Oh and John, don't use paper as a background. It will turn out ugly.
Kind of cool eh ? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! It's Populus canadensis by the way Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Ready ? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I identified this earlier as Sorbus hybrida, but someone told me that it's probably not. He suggested Sorbus thuringiaca, but I don't think it's that either. Personally, I still lean towards S. hybrida.. any help ? Wait for it... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I haven't have chance to scan some leaves in the night, sorry Enmos, past few nights I was busy with some other stuffs. I tried to cover the leaf on the surface of the scanner by a shoes box expecting it will create some darkness, but it doesn't work Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! If I have time I'll scan some tonight. This one is scanned with lid closed, so the leaf is a bit pressed. Not very nice, I know, just wanted to see the water drop Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!. They're the same leaf, but scanned on both sides. I upload it in my multiply: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Nice leaves Inny Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Is that from the same plant you uploaded a leaf from before ? The one I suggested might be a Parthenocissus species ? You should try to scan with the lid up, but no shoe box on top of it. Just the lid up Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! See post 321.
your backgrounds aren't pure whit like Enmos'. Now that we know he 'cheats' and edits them in photoshop.
I'll post an unedited image alongside an edited one next time Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Thats right. Hey, look at Ins. background and how the background color changed to reflect the leaf color.
Yes, it's the same leaf, Enmos. Just wanted to see whether I can scan the water drop on the leaf Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I'll go get some new leaves next time. When I go out, sometimes I don't remember especially when I'm in hurry Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I removed the white background, and put a 'fill effect' background which is a combination of pink and grey. I actually try with silver, let see if it is better. The black background doesn't work, it leaves white mark around the leaf.
This is what happened when I changed the background colour to black or silver, there are white gradation surrounding the leaves: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Enmos already told us previously that he used photoshop to add contrast and give the black background, but I don't have photoshop, so what I did is, I put it in photoeditor, make the background transparent, and then fill it with background image, but apparently it doesn't turn out as good as photoshop. So to put it nicely, I put a not so contrast background (a bit pink), and add frame on it Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
No, I don't use paintshop to make a black background. That's achieved by leaving the scanner lid up. I just add a bit of contract, something a bit of color enhancement and get rid of dust particles (which stand out more if you leave the lid up).
So tell her how you select the background. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Why dont you write a step by step tutorial instead of being so cryptic? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
He did already in post #321, but I read too fast and forgot some details. I'll follow the steps when I have new leaves and my room is quite dark. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Inny, what about this. It's not perfect by far, just a quick try Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
