If you were given the power to end humankind right here and now (no suffering and all that; everyone would just vanish into thin air), would you do it ? This with regard to all the rest of earths life and the fact that we are destroying it. So, in essence, it comes down to this: What do you value more, the endurance of the human race despite its destructiveness to life on earth or the rest of life on earth ? Answer/discuss whichever above question or both.
Survival of the fittest. Humanity deserves to live on forever, it's not our fault that the animals can't fight back.
We "deserve" to live on? How do you work that out? Why (and how) do we deserve anything at all? Who do we blame if we don't get what we deserve? Who do we thank if we do get it?
Just because you (or we) are capable of something that doesn't mean we deserve it. Every human is capable of being nice to each other, and raising a family or whatever: do they deserve it? Should those who don't get what they deserve complain? To whom?
look...I got nukes ok...so I deserve everything you got because you don't have nukes. That all. That is reality.
QED. I'm capable of having nukes. (Just no real interest anymore, I got bored of them after five years). What do I deserve?
We deserve it for merely being capable of getting it. If we get it , we thank ourselves. We did all our hard work, so we have ourselves to be proud of. If we can live, we deserve to.
I don't know of anything on this planet that humans haven't harmed in some way or other ....sometimes drastically, sometimes only a little bit, but they've harmed everything. If I could get rid of humans, I'd do it immediately ....without any hesitation or uncertainty. Baron Max
''they've harmed everything'' I love how you speak from a 3rd person point of view So you'd get rid of yourself? You want to die? It's all our fault animals can't express their wants and concerns and we are doing what is best for ourselves?
Then we don't actually deserve it, it'll just happen. Deserve means that it's our due. We're not due anything. From anywhere.
It is not our due. Whatever we get will come about because of own efforts and where we happen to accidentally be in the universe. And it could all go at any time... Earth-collision asteroids, massive freak weather, whatever. Power? We can't even stop a tsunami, or an earthquake.
If you work your ass off, you deserve a reward. Humanity has evolved and worked its ass off, therefore it deserves its place of Power True, but if we wanted to, we could annihalate the face of the Earth in seconds. We could wipe out whatever species we wished. We could destroy any place on earth in the blink of an eye. We could round up every creature in existence, and somehow build a skyscraper out of that. If that is not power, I dont know what is.
Unless you don't get noticed by those in the position of handing out rewards... Humanity has not "worked its ass off": humanity has just done what comes naturally to it. Mostly free-wheeled and stumbled upon things. Therefore it deserves nothing. Really? No not really. See the thread on destroying the Earth. Nature has a remarkable resilience. You're not a teenager by any chance? It's usually adolescents that equate destructiveness with power. How about bringing back some of the species we accidentally destroyed? How about repairing the Earth? How about giving everyone enough food to live? Or stopping war and disease? Or death? If THAT isn't power then I don't know what is.
Humanity has survived the harshest climates. It has lived through highs and lows, and therefore that makes Humans the top of the pack. Do you know what an antimatter bomb is? We have none, but once they are developed, we could literally wipe all life off of the face of the Earth in seconds. What other species can do this? I was merely showing how the Earth is at our mercy. We can manipulate our environment. Why not?
